$
I have a ractive fireball style exhaust welded on cut the stock one off and welded on. Nice and deep tone not ricey at all. Get custom pipe bent and a shop and put a tip on it. I have the exhaust that i has on my sedan $for sale for the right price. I custom bent an pipe and welded it to the stock axle-back, so it bolts on. I bought a used stock exhaust and bolted it back on the car, since i getting rid of the car. If your interested drop me a line. Here is a picture of it.

You just bolt it up. It bolts at the end of the stock mid pipe and use the stock hanging locations. Yes you can leave the stock cat as it is. The exhaust is an axle back. Make me a reasonable offer, i dont really know what to ask for it.

ok so is this just the ractive universal muffler basically? cuz id like to try and find a whole catback system, but it seems almost impossible to find for the 2000 model....any ideas?

(not saying im not interested, just wanna weigh all my options first)

Yeah a universal exhaust welded to rear of the axle-back. Borla make a cat back (kinda ricey sound to me) and so does sr motorsports. Corksport also has a full system, but it gets rid of the cat. The exhaust system from a 01+ sedan should also work too, but not 100% sure, seens a few on ebay. They are usually 300 min.

I highly suggest going to an exhaust shop and have them mandrel bend you a custom cat back and weld on a universal exhaust. Might be cheaper. get nothing bigger then 2.25" piping unless your FI if not you'll lose some power. But with a full system you're not going to really gonna get mass amount of power, you only gain a few ponies somewhere between 5-9hp.

ok, im gonna look into it...thanks man...ill have an answer for you by the end of the week id say...

any body else got exhaust suggestions?

I have the Mazdaspeed Sport Axle-Back on my 1.6L 1999 Protege and I love it. I was worried when I first got it cause people on here said that it sounded loud and bad. But after having it on for almost 2 months now, I gotta say that I love it. It isn't loud at all and just gives a nice low grumble when you want to give it some gas. They say that it is made by Bosal. I am very impressed with this exhaust, and it looks great if you have the Mazdaspeed rear lip.

That is a good price, but the one for the P5 is too short for the Protege.

I'm pretty sure that a Mazdaspeed Muffler would bolt right up.

Here is the muffler that I have (note this dude is asking way to much for it):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...001358950QQcategoryZ33636QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This is the one that is made for the Protege and not the P5. Notice that the Protege sedan one has a longer tip on it. I think that this muffler was just an aftermarket accessory that Mazda made for the 1999-2003 models of the Protege.

yes, a mazdaspeed axle back will fit. They are made by Racing beat. They look better if you have the rear lip to match it.

Its brand new. Thats the price they charge at the dealer. At my dealer, they want $185 for that same muffler

All I have to say is the corksport exhaust is awesome, and good price. Love it.

yeah i like the way the corksport exhaust sounds, but im nervous about taking out the second cat cuz Pennsylvania's emission laws are kinda screwy...

Nj's are just as tough, cops wont notice it, and I went throught inspection with it on, and passed, theres on worries with it, just when U put it on, keep the stock one around somewhere.

What did you decide to go with jbiird?

im still not sure...ive got a few options:

1-corksport system, love the sound and price
2-custom piping from exhaust shop and chose the muffler/tip
3-used SRmotorsports catback (waiting on price)

ive got the cash now, so i could buy any of these, whose got suggestions?? (ill put nautical down for the corksport option lol)

i would say option 2 or 3. Is the used srmotorsport exhaust the one listed on ebay. He had it on his race track protege for 1 or 2 seasons, i know that becuz i was gonna buy it from him for 175 a few months ago, after contacting him in a local ad. I didnt flow thru with it, since i'm trading in the car. It's a good buy, will give you 9hp, it sounds good, but isn't as loud as corksport or custom piping.
