i am thinking of upgrading my stereo to an aftermarket mp3 player, but i am not sure which one i want. i am leaning toward a blaupunkt, because i like their products. also, i want to utilize the factory cubby below the deck, kind of like in the MP3 and 1999-2000 models.

what are your opinions as to mp3 players? what is a good player that isn't too expensive? i would like to keep the deck around $200 if possible.

thanks.

Well, Alpine an Eclipse are out. Kenwood has one around that price.

i would stay awar from lanzar personally. I know for a fact there are some future MSP owners who will be replacing their head units upon edlivery with alpine etc.....

ask them and im sure htye would love to get some cash for it. The msp comes with a really good kenwood unit. Not excelon series, but i believe its the best non-excelon one.

To be honest any CD player with MP3 for $200 is complete garbage. I haqven't seen to many decks of any kind I'd buy for $200 let alone one with MP3.

what would you reccomend?

Kenwood KDCMPV7019

For my personal use I would get an AI-net alpine cd player and use the 6 disc MP3 CD changer

Forgot to mention the display can be set to red to match the guages and I ment the unit matches the Protege silver dash bezzel not just the MP3. ALso it has CD changer controls and a good tuner.

i was looking at that unit, and you can get it for $200 off ebay, but the display is small and looks cluttered. do you still have your kenwood player, or have you upgraded?

No, I ripped my Z919 out of the car the first week I had it and put in my Alpine CDA-7965. I gave the 919 to my brother for christmas last year. Also do yourself a favor and don't buy the deck off of ebay. Sounddomains fine but not ebay. Right now alot of dealers are clearing out models for the new stuff so you can probably get it for a few bucks off.

Exactly! Why waste money on a substandard POS! If your going to replace a stock headunit Why get a unit with less cd sound quality. If you just want MP3 thats one thing but realize someother atributes will be lost.

Also if you think over $200 is rich, you have a very nasty audio reality check coming to you. $300 is average these days.

The other bad part is to only think in the short term with audio. Its better to buy it once and buy it right instead of starting with a substandard POS, then addin a POS with 3 preout then finaly getting to something decent. Take a look of every feature you think you might like and buy for that.

What headunit do you have and what exactly do you want from the new one?
What is the budget for this? US or can?

Well...$300 CDN is not bad, but this guy told me yesterday that you need to spend another $100 on a harness and faceplate because the P5 is a weird size. Is this true??? I'm asking because I also want to get a half decent mp3 player but don't want to break the bank.

You will need a harness, $15 US and a dash kit also $15 US. Its not a weird size at all. Its double din which is quite common and can with the kit easily fit a single din radio. Check my sticky at the top of the audio forum for info on the kits needed.

I ment $300 US not canadian.

As for the face plate, I hope he ment dash kit. Either way This guy sounds shaddy, I'd find another retailer.
