I'm thinking about doing the unthinkable, Selling my MS6!!!!

I've decided that at 26 and still living with my parents, I'm well on my way down the road to loserville. I desperatley want to get my own place and I don't want to waste my money renting, or on a trailer(Mobile Home). This means that I have to buy a house and in my area even an 1100 sq. ft. house that needs work will cost at least $115,000. Now I know that in some areas a house like this will cost way more or way less but to me that is still more than I can afford, with my current car payment. So now to the point of this whold thread. What do you all think I would reasonably be able to get for my car.

22,000 Miles
Summer and Winter Tires
Mods are in my sig
It has a few small scratches here and there and a few rock chips in the hood but in Michigan those are pretty common things for a 1+ year old car to have.
The black plastic valance on the front under the opening for the radiator is also cracked(Damn snow plows piling snow up in front of freeway exit ramps!!)

I still owe almost $23,000 on it and I'd really like get as close to that number as I can.

So what do you all think, can I get $23k or am I crazy. (I guessing that it will be more like $21-$22k?!?)

I still haven't decided what to replace it with I just know that I want lower monthly payments.

Current = $490 a month
Desired New = less than $325 a month with the same or better gas milage and cheaper insurance.

I'm also starting back to school next month so I will be adding a lot of hwy miles to my weekley driving so it needs to be reliable and get good hwy mpg, which means that I will pretty much hate driving whatever I end up with but some things are worth making sacrifices for, or so I'm told.

I also have an ATV that I'm going to be selling. All total I plan to cut my monthly bills by $350+.

i can't imagine selling my baby lol! but sorry i can't offer any advise...as i still live with my parents too ;) ah haha. that is a very high monthly payment though, by my knowledge atleast.

Hey jdub260, I hate to say it but I don't think that the situation is good. I sold cars for about 4-years, and have recently traded/purchased two new vehicles, including my '07 MS6-Sport. Looking at your payment and the amount remaining you are going to be "upside down" which is never fun. Using the blackbook and edmunds which are both usually pretty "fair" guides, using average level (which from scratches, crack, etc.) is best you really, need to sell privately to get to be close to where you need to be. A dealer would sell your bably for best around $21K (not taking into account any refurb) and private party, excluding modes, around the same at best. Figure in your mods, etc. you might at best be break-even. I know, not what you wanted to hear.

To do this you'd either have to find someone wanting on these mods on your MS6 or most and give them what they consider to be a fair deal, or if possible put it "back to stock" if you have the parts and sell you mods. This may turn out the best, getting best price for the mod parts.

I wish you luck and it is never fun! Go for a Mazda 3 as the economical replacement. With the low entry price it may be able to help offset the payment a bit and still give you a fun, reliable vehicle.

Best of luck!

on no...first fire signs that you are growing up. Seems to me you are thinking in the right direction.

Growing up sucks!!! :D

I really don't think I can part it out considering I'd have to pay someone to take all the parts off, so thats not really an option.

I guess I'll just detail it and get some good pictures and put it in the AutoTrader for $23k and hope for the best.

ill trade you a p5

ya?

=D

There is no shame in wanting to better yourself financially, and especially for a new home. And I feel your pain. We just bought a new home. A 1150 sqaure foot home here, ~10 years old is at least 215,000.

Anyways, it's going to be hard to sell your car so early, but not impossible. You will probably lose some money upfront but take into account what you will save in monthly payment, gas ( which should be cheaper for sure), insurance and maint. over the next few years and see if it's worth it. Mods in your car will also make it harder to sell. Most people don't want a car that was messed with. And sometimes a mod'd car is seen as just that...."messed with".

good luck.

agreed, i don't think your situation sounds very fun at all. i would not deal with payments that high! i think that a private sale is the best way to go, as dealers will screw you..fact (upbum).

also like SGT said the mazda 3 is a good car, with great economy! kicks the s*** out of driving a civic anyway haha.

also if you do decide to sell it, then you should probably return it to stock like the others have said. ebay the mods, or sell them on the forum.

I think getting out the parents house should be the number one priorty. After all, what are you going to tell the girls? "Yeah I have a fast car, you want to come over, my moms making pizza tonight" there goes all your bonus points from the car. good luck man!!

Dont listen to them! stay at home forever, eat for free, do your laundry for free and live rent free! Its not worth it to be a grown up and if youre worried about girls not liking it...well who cares just date high schoolers and they wont even notice!

Ha I kid, I just moved into an apt with my GF...and i miss all the nice things about living at home...although they will never outweigh the fact that you are living with your folks....

Well after doing a lot of research on new car options, here's the choices(in a 100 mile radius).

For less than $12,000 and low miles for a used car I can get the following any day of the week.

Sebring, any
Stratus, any
Taurus, any
Focus, Not SVT
Mustang, any.
Protege, Not Mazdaspeed

I've looked at hundreds of cars and probably 85% of them are one of the above listed. It's a short list and the only car on that list that I think I can drive long term without wanting to commit suicide would be a Mustang GT. Though if I got a Mustang GT it would have about 60k miles on it, while the others would only have about 40K and the Mustang would get lower MPG than my MS6, but it would be a far, far cheaper payment and most likely faster than my MS6 too.

Also I think that it will probably take a couple of months to sell my car which puts us closer to winter and Mustangs around here usually get a little cheaper in the winter.

well, i have a mustang and have always loved them, so I'm probably a little biased, but mustangs are good cheap speed. A gt stock to stock against an ms6 (except for the 05 and up models) are actually slower than an ms6, but not by too much. but very easy to fix up for cheap... I've worked on many a mustang in my day, and they are easy to fix, easy to find parts for (junkyard, swap meets etc) so I would say go for the mustang in this case. Any of the other cars you listed will leave you wanting some torque!!!!

Well if it is a Mustang than it would be in the 2000-2004 model year range. As far as I know those are all built pretty well. If I get a 5-speed I know the transmissions are almost bullet proof and the rear end is pretty stout also, so I shouldn't have to worry about reliability issues. Especially since the only modifications that I can see me doing would be tires and brakes.

I just gotta keep reminding myself that I'm getting it to keep my monthly bills down, not to buy a procharger. :D

300 bucks for some 3.73 or 4.10 rear end gears, and you'll see HUGE improvement for very little money, easy speed man!

But I would have to guess that is I changed to one of those gears that I loose MPG??

I gotta think that a Mustang GT gets around 15-17 city and 19-21 hwy any way so I wouldn't want to loose more MPG since my MS6 get 21-22 city and 26-28 hwy.

just lettin ya know my status for my srt 4

my payments are 318 a month.
insurance is 140 a month

throwin out suggestions. lol

lol wtf? did you blow the insurance guy or what?

why do you say that? 140 a month is pretty average...I pay just over 100 right now and I have had 2 major accidents. I turn 25 in september and then my rates will drop to the point where I will pay about 90 per month.

EDIT: and I have full coverage and rental car added in
