Well, it is going to be difficult with that price range. The problem you are going to have is finding something with decent mileage and in decent condition. It can be done. I would look in the $5,500-$5,999 range and see if you can negotiate down to $5,000 or slightly higher.
You will also probably have to look in a ~350 mile radius to get the one you want. I'm not sure where you are, so I searched a 250 mile radius of NYC.
I found a Mazda 3 04' with decent amount of rust >_<. For 2,800$. 119k miles.
1. Is there a way to remove rust/repaint myself? And would it be worth it for the money?
2. Would it be worth it to put in different color lights / tint?
