Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about upgrading from my mazdaspeed protege to a speed 6. Im looking for something that is a little nicer, leather, moonroof, Stick, and AWD. Only options for these requirements are ether a Speed 6, Subaru, or Audi.

I went and drove one today and it was great! the clutch was very touchy though. It was an over priced, atleast i think it was, 06 white speed 6 GT with 37k on the clock....asking price $19,700, dealer cost was 18900. Please correct me if i am wrong but is this a crazy. It was in good condition though but i dont think i want to start a car out on damn near 40k miles...

Another i found its an 07 with 1500 miles for 22k....not sure on model. seems like a decent deal its a GT but if not its just a fair price.

Whats the average mileage you get with a speed 6? guessing around 27ish?

07 with 1500mi for 22k?! first find out whats wrong with it, then buy it if its good.... i feel like i got robbed now :(

Yeah, if nothing is wrong with it, id most definately get the 07.

i'll sell you my 06 Sport with less than 15k miles for $20k...no leather or roof though :D

an 07 for 22k is no surprise. Mazda dealers were selling brand new ones for that price if you could haggle right.

I would say go with the 07. The 07's seem to have less problems.

As far as gas mileage ... 27 is a bit optomistic. Car is too heavy + AWD saps away economy. Just for your info, I average 23-24 mpg in summertime in "surburban" driving. Not stop-and-go, but not highway cruising. In the winter, I average 21-22, same driving conditions. As far as highway cruising: I have gotten 34 mpg, using cruise control @ 55mph, no A/C. I continuouly get 30-31 mpg at 65 mph, cruise control on, A/C on. The worst I got on the highway was 27-28, but that was with no cruise, 70-90 mph, 4 people and full trunk. But, I also kinda drive like a grandma until someone pisses me off.

I never owned a MSP, but I did own a 93 Protege DX and I have to admit .. I REALLY miss the handling of smaller, lighter cars. The MS6 is heavy, and shows it. Sure, the MS6 will stick around the tightest corners no problem, but my Protege was more fun to toss in corners, even if it didnt stick so well, if that makes sense. Make sure you can live with a whale before you trade in the MSP.

+1 on the mpg. i get between 21-24 mpg mixed. best was 27 all highway. don't count on 27 consistently, especially if you like to enjoy the car.

on the price, if the 07 has leather its a GT. if so, the price is good at 22k. if its a sport, its still not bad, but not as good.

Ok so I called on the 07....He is up to 2,000 miles and its only a sport...so its not a screaming deal but not too bad....

I like the protege but i would like the option to take 4 people comfortably wherever needed. I also like the smoother ride and more luxury that the speed 6 has...although it's probably more car than most people need. The protege rides rough, and is not very roomy or comfortable, but it was never meant to be.

the only killer is going to be the mileage...i get a average of about 30-32 in my MSP and that's great.....

i don't know what to do.....ill need some time to think it over...

I just traded in my 03 Protege and got an 06 MS6 Sport on Saturday with 18,982 miles, paid 19,998. Red, new tires, battery and 2 small scratches on the entire car. (will post pics) I used to work on Mazdas and wanted a speed 6 ever since they came out. Love the ride, quietness, and more luxury and the fact that i can still have fun in it just like the protege.

I sold my Protege outright and bought a new MS6 for 20K new off the lot. I'd go with the '07 with fewer miles personally. As for the upgrade, it's definitely that. You'll love the standard features, the subtle look, and the power on demand. I average about 26 mpg right now with mixed driving, though I've heard as much as 30+ on strictly highway trips.

i think you could do better on both of those deals, as dealers had to REALLY drop the prices towards the end of the run... I wouldn't pay more than 20K for ANY speed6... plus 06 is the only year you can get the two best color, black cherry and whtie pearl(nana)

Oooh, lookout! The 07 smells of wreck, or worse - flood. Way too few miles not to be suspicious. Starting at 1500 miles and now at 2000, one of the salesmen is probably driving it. You have to really do your homework. Ask if you can have it "checked by your mechanic". Look CLOSE at this car for signs of collision repair! Examine the rims closely. Have they been repaired? Roll under both ends of it and see what it looks like. Check the area in the trunk & front end by the bumpers, especially near the corners. Pull up the rug under the passenger side mat where the VIN is located and look for rust, mud or sand all over. The upholstery is black cloth that should have white stitching. The front mats should say "Mazdaspeed" in WHITE stitching. Don't believe a word they say about the car's past, and get a CARFAX!!!

If it checks out, buy it. I love my 07 Sport. Only a matter of time before they get worth more, IMO.

well since my post its just not the right time to buy....so im going to put the money into my MSP to get new breaks, Tires and Exhaust....Thanks for all the pointers and im still keeping my eye on a speed 6.

yeah..just keep your eye out for a good deal

and if you get rid of the MSP..you should hand it down to another protege member wanting more power after owning a p5 or sedan :)
