Looking at buying a MSP and want advice? Post here!

if your gonna replace the turbo i would go with the gt28rs and steedspeed mani but of course you will need the average supporting mods.......

Picked up the Mazda on Weds. I think think the Turbo's going out though. Everytime I hit 3-5k rpm, the car shakes violently. Any suggestions? Like should I rebuild the Turbo, or just go aftermarket? Only problem with aftermarket is, I need to find a Turbo equal to the one I have now which is the stock one. The less money I spend now, the more I can put into it later. I'm taking it to my mechanic today, so we'll see what's up.

Found out what the problem was. The first cylinder was missfiring and the Turbo was blown to s***, so I brought the car back to the guy I bought it from. He took $500 from me to fix the turbo because apparently it was my fault for racing, yet I kept the car parking in my driveway for the two days I owned it. Oh well. On to the next car :/

So you gave the car back?

Yup. Unfortunately, I don't have the time nor the money to fix the car or have it fixed. I'll be looking for another MSP in the near future. I only had that car for 3 days before the Turbo blew, and I still loved the car LOL. Might pick up a 1G Miata for the mean time though, so I'm not leaving Mazda entirely.

Considering A MSP

Hey guys,

Having had a Protege5 for my first car, then moving on to a Mazda3 2.3, I'm giving strong consideration to buying a Speed Protege as another car. There's one for sale about an hour from where I live and I was wondering what you guys though about the price on the car. I've attached a link to the listing for the car. It's an 03.5, Sunlight Silver (so one of 500) and has been a north Texas car all its life. Deal or No Deal?

Do you want it for fun or do you plan on just driving it. I would personally buy a cheaper MSP with a blown motor so that I could build it. But to each his own.

Primarily driving it to and from school with an occasional fun day thrown in for good measure. I'm not looking for something that will be a driveway ornament while I fix it before I can drive it but rather something that I can enjoy day to day, modify slighty (not looking for 300+ horsepower from this car), and overall just drive.

Personally, I would look for one being sold privately as you can get them for almost nothing nowadays. IMO I think 7k for 96k miles is a bit steep. Keep browsing and you will find a good deal. It took me over a year to find the right one, though don't let that discourage you.

I'm sure you can talk them down on the price. The good thing is the engine bay especially and everything else really looks untouched. As long is there has been regular maintenance done on it? I'd pull the inlet pipe on the turbo and check for oil and shaft play also check the plugs.

7k is a bit much, if it had a built motor then yes buy that sh*t! but since it is not, shop around till you find one for cheaper.

Having looked at the Carfax report on the car there were only two owners and both seemed to take it to the dealership for routine maintenance, often times at the same dealership.

^ agreed, 7k for a built one maybe, hell Corksport has a fully built and functional MP3 for 6k in the for sale section, just take off the graphics and its a great deal IMHO.

I agree too much. I just bought mine, in Austin, with 67k miles for $4800. I got a buddy deal, but 7k is way too high.

There is also another MP3 for sale. Check out the FS section. The other MP3 is built and turboed as well, you could probably pick it up for cheap.....look it over.
