Looking to buy

Hey guys I am new on this forum and Im looking for a good deal on MSP. I currently have a 02 protege, but Im ready to pick up a speed. I live in Michigan and it's not easy finding them around here.

you are pretty much going to have to do a nationwide search. There pretty hard to find. One guy on here has 3 of them

priced a little high, i think

Have two proteges that I am currently looking at on a lot that I would love some opinions on. Keep in my that I am Canadian so just keep in mind the conversion to KMs and the price as well.

First one is an 03 in orange. Has roughly 115,000 kms on it and going for approximately $11,000. Never test drove this one but I did hear it start up and noticed a fairly prominent ticking noise coming from the engine. Would love to hear peoples thoughts on what this could possibly be.

Second one I don't have the ad for but its a 2003.5 in yellow with roughly 127,000 kms on it. I actually test drove this one and loved it. It has been in two minor accidents but other than that it seemed solid.

Just wondering peoples overall thoughts on the ticking of the first car and in general for these vehicles. I see you guys bash these cars for this and that all the time but I also see you praise them. What's the general thoughts on them if I can get a decent pricepoint? Mainly worried about reliability when they get to the kilometres that these two cars are in.

the orange is way overpriced, by atleast 4k. The ticking would concern me.

the yellow one would depend on what kind of minor accidents they were. still have the correct lips?

from what i've seen 7k is around the pricepoint i've seen most in decent shape with under 70k miles but i don't know how fast those are moving.

for some reason, CN they sell for about 2500 more than they do in us.. and its not only b/c of exchange.. b/c there is only like .04 difference on the dollar right now..

looking at a msp

I'm interested in this MSP, but I dunno if its taking a gamble...seeing as it has almost 100k miles. The price seems good ($6595), but I'm afraid I'll run into all the common problems with MSP's and have to pay twice that in repairs.

What do you guys think? I currently drive an auto 02 protege but its too sluggish for my tastes(shrug)

I'd wanna know where the stock wheels are. those things suck.

Other than that, I have 100K on my car, and I have no worried about reliability, but I know mine was cared for, and not beaten on. Its a risk, but if the guy seems upstanding and you don't find evidence of a lot of mods, you should be OK. Price seems like about average for private party currently.

It's either been wrecked or modded. The front bumper has some broken tabs around the headlights. Usually means the bumper has been removed, and usually that's for FMIC. Not that there's anything sinister about a FMIC but it could indicate other mods that have since been removed and increased wear & tear on the engine and other components.

I've had my bumper off 4 times, and not broken tabs... idk how I got that lucky.. but good eye.

Looks nice...If I was looking at a msp I would look for a boost controller hacked into the wga vac line pull off the intake coupler on the turbo and look for oil on the inlet and do a compression test. (compreesion tester from the autoparts is like $20 unbolt coils and test... takes 10min tops.

turbo timer is a VERY smart mod on any turbo car, and most people wouldn't leave that stuff on if they stripped it otherwise.. my vote is on the 2nd. If you want one that bad, I'll sell you mine for 7500. You can ask anyone here if mine has been well cared for.. and I know the original owner.

Looking to Buy

Hello Everyone, I am looking to buy an MSP. I am going to look at this car tomorrow and was seeing if I could get some advise.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...rs=&max_price=10000&cardist=23&standard=false

I have read lots of reviews on MSP's and they seem to be reliable for the most part. However, the people that have complained about their MSP have dogged on their reliability pretty harshly. If anyone could give me some advise on what to look out for ETC that would be awesome. Also, he has quite a few upgrades to his MSP but I don't really know how good/great they are. Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
