(argh)

I haven't seen the pictures yet, but apparently on his drive home from work today, a basketball-ish sized rock found its way from the back of a construction truck to underneath my dad's M-edition...launched the nose of the car right up, destroyed the oil pan and one of the front control arms... and deployed both airbags... which blew out the windshield... and whats worse, he says the doors don't close properly now... so the chassis may have been tweaked...

from the description, it sounds like the ins co is gonna just total it... a real shame, considering, any of you who have seen it up close know the car looks (looked?) cleaner than it did the day it rolled off the dealership showroom floor :(

Heres some before pics:

Probably wont be till the weekend till I get some "after" pictures...

Damn that sucks man......you guys need to see if you can purchase it back from insurance company.

Just let us know if it happens and we will have a moment of silence for the fallen Mazda.

OMG ....never though a rock could do that much damage...even on a miata.

time to turn it to a modified car.

maybe ask sam for parts? or sam will pick it up if decide not to keep it.. that sucks because it was clean are rare.

omfg that's horrendous !!! sooo sorry rick and give ur dad my condolences :(. that was the cleanest M-edition i've ever seen...

no F-ing JOKE! i've got tears coming outta my eyes :'( ...my hearts totally broken...that sucks... im soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry to hear and see what happened.... at least your dad is okay.... which is real good...a few abrasions of course from the air bags...but at least he's okay... unfortunately for the car ....the sadness.... the heartbrokenness!!!!

like what everyone was saying..."the cleanest m-edition miata i've ever seen" i still can not believe that happened!

chris and i were in cali the past two/three days when we saw the post....(wow) (shocked) rocks suck!!! truck that carry rocks suck even more!!! trucks suck throw rocks at them...

hopefully its not a totally fallen mazda... lets just say for now the car is extremely (sick) and is injured...time for some major surgery!!!!!!!!! im down to operate!

update!

The glass guy came by and installed the new windshield today...

dad spent most of the afternoon tearing apart the dash to install the new airbag control sensor... turns out the replacement part is bad...

but, the subframe has been replaced, along w/an oilpan from flyin' miata salvage...

cars running again :D

still needs a little more work... and theres still the crappy matter of the salvage title... but... at least its not just a pile of car bits in the garage anymore :D

After seeing the outcome of being hit by that rock, I'm really amazed of the durability of the ratsback spoiler (survived way better than my GV spoiler), on your father's M-Edition (that is a ratsback....is'nt it?).

I'm really happy that everything is coming together o.k.
