Well I finally need a new car soon and have been looking around for a left over 2 but cant find anything I am interested in, color wise. I did find a 1 owner 2011 with 26k on it for 11,200 but its an automatic. I have a dealer looking for a 2013 in liquid silver but I think he is trying the stall effect to get me to buy a 14. I am on a limited budget so price is an issue. Do any of you regret the automatic? Does not having a warranty bother you on a used car? I really like driving the 5 speed I tested last last year but they are so hard to find. My daily commute is about 3 miles, I will also be using this for everything else as far as my hobbies. Yes I will be hunting out of it, lol. I plan on using a hitch haul and deer carrier. I did it in escorts and saturn coupe so it does work. I also travel to 2 other states for competion archery shoots, the 5.4 liter in my rusted/busted f-150 isnt cutting it for these things. Give me any tips you can as far as Auto/ 5 speed and used or new. Thanks.

Hey bud! I would not settle for the automatic. The 5 speed in this car is very tight and a lot of fun too drive. I have had my 2011 for 2 years now and i bought it used with 19720 on the ODO i now have 44,000 and have only done normal maintanence no problems at all the 2 is a very fun car to drive as well! Do not let the power numbers fool you its super light and extremely nimble I think the 2 would be perfect for what you are looking for. With your 3 mile commute you will probably never need gas again hahaha oh and WELCOME TO THE FORUM :D

Thanks Guys, I was a little hesitant about an auto myself, especially after testing a 5speed, It just seemed to fit the way I like to drive. For what I will be doing I feel the standard is a better option. I know that in the cold weather my auto on the truck isnt even close to warmed up by the time I get to work so that cant be good for it. 5speed is on the top of the list, now if this dealer can just find me a liquid silver sport, i will be in business. I know they have a 2014 in transit but with money being the issue like stated I am trying and hoping for a left over 13.

I have a automatic...In a sense, I do regret it. I bought the car just to drive not realizing how into modding I would get. I still love my car and would not trade it but I would prefer the manual.
My 2012 has 46k miles on it and I don't have any issues so far. To get a car without a warranty is simply up to you and how you feel about being more observant with how the vehicle is running and upkeep. Mine has no warranty on it so I just make sure to immediately jump on issues if they arise (none have so far thankfully) to prevent an expensive fix.

With all the mods I have on my car it's kinda fun to watch people react when they find out my car is an auto. He has the power, response, shifts like I would, and holds his own quite well. But still...a manual would be nice.

I really want the 5speed but.....I might be able to get the auto with 26k miles for 11,200 out the door with tax, tiltle, reg included. That is the problem, it seems like a good deal with the payments i want but would hate to have a car wishing it was something else, a little more fun.

Please listen to me its a lot of money to settle on something you already know you will have slight regret towards. Just keep searching my friend it is worth your time. There was a video on youtube released quite some time ago it was one of the head developers at Mazda and he said "we make our gearboxes so the driver will want to change gears" I dont believe those were his exact words but something along the line of that im having trouble finding the video but he just explains how great the Mazda transmissions are and hes right i have owned 3 manual cars a miata, a 240sx, and the mazda2 and that nissan did not even come close to either of the transmissions in the Mazdas

You could probably get a Manual 2 for about the same price, just keep looking. Might be worth your time/sanity to check out of state? Something small like a 3/4 hour drive (or round trip) could probably net you smiles for years to come.

I drove 10 hours to get my manual 2. Don't regret it one bit. Now I'm about to travel/get the truck shipped 3,000 miles to get the truck I want with a manual. Going to be worth it.

The automatic 2 isn't bad, but the manual is way more fun. It also feels like it has 25-50% more power.

Thanks everyone.Spoke with the dealer this morning and he is tring to locate a leftover 2013 manual for me, he did mention the 14 thats on its way in but I told him i would take it if he dropped the 2000 off the sticker, needless to say thats not happening so he will be in touch when he find the 5 speed I want.

My wife and I both had to get our cars delivered from out of state to get the combos we wanted. New cars are not cheap and will last awhile so might as well get what you want.

Get the manual if you can since it is what you want.. As far as deals Mazda's official website says you get $1000 off PLUS 0% financing or $2000 customer cash... so the dealer HAS to honor at least 2k off. Don't let them overprice you wether its a 2013 or a 2014.

That is definetely off the 2013 only.

I would hold off. I picked up my 2012 sport manual with 10 miles on it (5 was from my test drive) in December of 2012 for $12800. I have a feeling they're not selling like hotcakes.
Check out the "How much did you pay for your 2" thread.

I wouldn't say the auto is awful...we own two auto 2's and I've definitely driven cars with worse transmissions. Mazda's autos tend to be pretty accurate in their shifts (no hunting for gear) and crisp (no slow or sloppy shifts). If what you're after is the most fun you can possibly get from the car, then yeah you probably want the manual -- but if you just want a DD with a sporty ride, then I wouldn't rule out the auto.

Now, a CVT on the other hand... (gah)

I think this dealer might be giving me the run around, i already found 3 differnt dealers who have what I want in stock but he is still trying to find one. I am expecting a call from him tommorrow and I think I will let him know that I plan on taking the trip an hour and a half away to this other dealer who has what i am looking for. It seems like these dealers are always playing games. I want a 2, i just dont want to pay full sticker, and I am sticking to that. I know about the customer cash, and one dealer even told me that it cant be used towards the down payment, i was like WHAT.....Thats one reason I left that dealer. This one want to play e-mail tag....sorry but i work on the road, call me, setup a time and give me a price. I know the 2 isnt selling good around me. It takes me about 3-4 weeks to spot maybe 2 of them. I am sure if I hold out I will get what I want, I HOPE.

I say take the trip. Dealer isn't making a lot of profit on these cars, especially with them having to arrange a 100+ mile delivery of another car off another dealer. They definitely want to push what's on their lot.

Call the other dealer, tell them "Don't give me a hard time, I have cash, price for the car before TTL after all incentives, with trade in (if have any), final price after TTL. I'm driving an hour an a half to get what I want and don't want to flip out on you if something doesn't add up".

You can also check truecar.com if that dealer participates. You print out a certificate and they're suppose to honor that deal.

Thanks for all the help, I am going to hold out a little longer thou. I am hoping that in as little as 3 months I will have the wifes car paid off and might have a little extra as a bigger down payment on a 2. I did check out the sport today again but I really think I want the Touring now. I will still want a 5 speed but waiting will put me in a better position finacially and you never now, maybe a low mileage touring 2012 5 speed at a good price might come up. Right now with this good weather we have been having the dealerships are full, but in the dead of winter I think a better deal is to be had. I actually saw a 2012 ford lariat f150 with all the bells and whistles, sticker was 42,000 marked down to 30,855 today. I figure why not wait. I will still be lurking and reading and will post pics when the day comes. Thanks Again everyone.

Well even thou it was only yesterday, i couldnt wait. I went and talked with the dealership today, put in my credit app, they are having a slight issue with approval because i already have a loan out on my wifes car but he said they will let me know more tommorrow after they add the wife to the app. Sooooo.....if things go good I will have my 2 hopefully by this weekend. liquid silver sport....5 speed. Trying to work a spoiler into the deal considering they have them in stock.
