Lojack, Forcetracker, Engine Immobilizer?

A coworker got his WRX stolen today at a job site in Jersey City. It happened in broad daylight and in the middle of a public lot. :(

I'm now looking into tracker/immobilizer options for my Mazda3. My insurance company says Lojack and Forcetracker are popular options in the NYC area but they don't formally recommend any one brand. I'm also thinking about a manual method. Maybe installing a hidden switch in the cabin that cuts power to the fuel pump or something.

I'm not interested in any pager/viper crap... just a functional suppliment to the factory installed engine immobilizer system (which no doubt has already been hacked).

Do any of you have any thoughts on the matter?

Your Mazda3 has an engine immobilizer. However, your vehicle doesn't have an alarm (only '05 Sp23 and the highest '06 trim in US have an alarm, and it's not a complicated one anyways).

Here in Canada, Boomerang is a popular GPS tracker and deterrant and they have some US operations as well (including NY state I believe).

I've spent the night reading up on this stuff. A hidden ignition kill switch seems to be the most effective method recommended. More so because of custom button placement than anything else.

I also found this document. It's nothing new but at least gives you an idea of different options. => http://www.nicb.org/uploaded_documents/publicfactsheets/antitheft.pdf

Hearing about my buddies car getting jacked freaked me out. I know it's New York City and all but you never think it'll happen. Not cool. (notcool)
