While it looks as though you're leaning towards DC, I thought I'd put in a few words. (These being my first words posted on the forums in quite a while...)

Jonathon and I just moved to Wichita two months ago and overall I like it. I don't remember everything you've asked about in previous posts, but here are some points regarding those that I do remember.

Night life: Downtown Wichita is quickly expanding. The area called Old Town is filled with bars, pubs, a brewery, etc.

Housing: Homes are dirt cheap here. We're renting for a few months before we decide what part of town we want to live in, but we've been looking. If you live in one of the many suburbs, homes are even cheaper. The cost of living in general is very low, meaning your money goes very, very far here.

Career Opportunities: While I don't know what you do, I do know you're in the Air Force. Wichita is a hub of the aircraft industry. Cessna, Hawker-Beechcraft, Sprint, and Learjet are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Schools: There are a few universities here. I don't know much about them because I already graduated and haven't needed to explore them.

Weather: We came in April and it was a little warm but not extremely hot. We moved here in August and it's not nearly as hot or humid as Georgia. It's beginning to get cool here but from what I've heard the winters aren't extreme. I can't speak from experience though.

Mazda community: We haven't seeked it out, so I can't give an honest read on it. However, I've seen a number of Speed 3s, Mazdaspeeds, and Mazdas in general.

Well, like I said, it seems you'll likely end up in DC but I just wanted to give a perspective from a fellow former GACC 'member.' ;)

Wow, holy sh*t!!...yeah, we haven't seen you on here in a while!
Thank you for the heads up on Wichita. As stated, its not a "sure thing" that I'll be going to DC or any of those 4 choices for that matter. The final word is from DoD/USAF HQ. I can only request what I want in order from most wanted to least wanted. I do hope I get something nice though.
Well...say hey to Jon and I wish you 2 the best over there!!

Yeah I'm a lurker. We moved because it was a great opportunity. I'd graduated from college and was having a rough time finding a job in Columbus and at the same time, Jonathon was offered a promotion that would send him to Wichita, so we figured, "Why not?"

Funny thing is, I had a job within a week here and couldn't find anything after four months of searching in Columbus. Guess it was a good decision. :)

Good luck with everything.

Less than 24 hours to go.
Come on...take part in the M247 reality-based event of the year!!!

WELL....today is D-Day!

See attachment....what's done is done.

Now, I just have to sit tight and wait.

Please tell me you are not a box kicker....

Define "box kicker"...

I'm a 2T2 (Air Transporter)...I push pallets and deal with Haz, fleet service etc. My primary background however, has pretty much been DV passenger movement...so looking to line up working the future Commander-in-Chief's bird aka AF1. :p

Anyway...the people spoke and now I'll be heading up to DC...(ughdance)

DC people...you can officially start telling me the "do's & don'ts".

I wouldn't like any of your choices but DC is the best of the four. Suspect you will get a better housing allowance up there as well, if your eligible for that.

Working for Obama would be a good thing.

I really didn't like any of the choices either...but I'm truly not picky. But I figured I'd do this little experiment to see what would happen. I secretly wanted to go to DC...perfect for a first timer to the States (my wife) and there's SO MUCH to see & do...plus everything is in close proximity.

The housing allowance is supposed to be really high due to the ridiculous cost of housing. Between the high cost of living and taxes...gonna have to make some sacrifices. Either way dude...it's better than Minot AFB in North Dakota!!(rockon)

Plus, there's a nice Mazda contingent up there, plenty of Jamaicans running around DC to make me feel at home + I'm sure my wife can probably find some Turkish people around there too...really looking forward to it.

Well then its good your going to a place where you can get some jerk w peas & rice.

I have a neighbor whose son is up there and his allowance is like $2200/month. Not bad if you ask me.

So you're coming to DC? Woot! Meet on November 15th in White Marsh, MD. Be there. End of story. :)

I am looking forward to some Jerk Chicken/Pork and all the right things next to it...lol.
It depends on their rank & if they have dependents or not.
I'll be capped @ $1855...that's what the gov't will give me to pay for my living space per month. I can (if I so choose) get a kick back if I get a house which is cheaper than $1855, or give more money out of my monthly pay for something higher priced (probably won't happen). That's where the people actually leaving around DC come in.
Renters primarily....looking to rent a house...not a townhome or apartment...I am LONGING for space.

I'll be there in March...you guys will have to wait.
Oh yeah...what's the weather like in Mid/end of March?
