Local shop and rims...

So, I bought a new set of rims for my car last Tuesday and then brought them to a local Discount Tire store store to be mounted and balanced. It so happened that when I get them put on my car after getting home, they were so off balanced that the car shook so bad at 40 mph. So, while at work my old man took my car in so that the same Discount Tire could rebalance the wheels. I got the car back and it didn't shake at all, it was great. To make a long store short, I went to wash my car today and found that my wheels are scratched in the lug nuts wholes. We're talking all four wheels all five wholes on each wheel. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know if the shop will do anything about it? This is REALLY upsetting as my car means a lot to me. I work my ass off like I am sure a lot of you do and have to pay for everything myself. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Did you provide them with the proper key/socket for the lugs that came with the wheels? if not they probably used their own which may have been too big.

reply...

there was no specific key for the rims as I used the same lug nuts as the stock wheels. i couldn't afford to purchase the locking lug nuts yet. i could barely afford the wheels which i needed because one of mine was bent due to the damn construction here in az on our freeways. so, they had to have used one of theirs. any ideas if i can do anything about it?

The lugnuts are sometimes too short or to long. A friend of mine had this problem. He put rims on fine and he made sure they were tight. What happened was that the nuts were all the way down but the place that the sit in the rim was not contacting because the studs were to long. Dont know if this is what happened but thtis is just a problem I heard.

P.S. lets see the new wheels.

nah, this isn't what happened. the scratches are from an oversizes lug nut wrench or socket. my father just called me and said that he is working with a girl whose brothers both work at the Discount Tire corporate offices and to let him know if the Discount Tire branch wont do anything because then he will let her know and she will have her brothers take care of it. they are scratch pretty bad and i have not even had them a week. i am hoping for some new rims and/or tires. that would be nice. anyways, thanks again and i will post pictures when i get this taken care of and my car washed.

I would have brought to their attention asap, but still, they should pay to fix them or replace them if they're that bad. At least they're a big chain store with plenty of insurance to cover their ass in situations like this. Anyway, I would think they would recommend better lugs (which i'm sure they carry) instead of scratching up a set of rims trying to force something on. Got pics of the damage?

i do not have pics of the damage though i will take some when i get home today. i know that they wont do anything about it today when i go over there after work so i will be able to take some pictures when i get home.

reply...pictures of my ride

ok so i went to discount tire and the guy was very understanding and helpful. i am going to bring my stock wheels in tomorrow and he is going to replace the tire i blew the other day for free and while i drive on those for about a week, they are going to send my rims out to have them repainted white so that they are not scratched anymore. in the meantime, i did take some pictures of my car and the wheels. the second image is the scratching on my rims that the shop did. all four wheels in all five wholes are scratched. if you want to see the other pictures i took tonight, you can see those at http://www.blankverse.net/index.php?module=pictures&aid=3
