Local members that do work

Hey all,

Not sure if this is something that goes on here, but I know there are a few people on the contour boards that are able to do work for members. I'm not talking for free at all. I'm looking for somebody that may be able to do an engine replacement on a p5. I'd probably be able to source an engine but I don't have the space or tools (or knowledge really) to do it myself with any sort of good result. To be up front, i'm trying to save money over a shop and figured if I can get some cash to a member that has done a few great. I'd be willing to help wrench as well.

Anyone know of a person in the DE/MD/PA/NJ area? I'm burning about a quart of oil every week and a half and would love to make it stop. I'm in a tough spot that I love the car but I don't want to sink 3k into it. For me its the perfect mix of usability and economy and I don't know of any other car I'd want to buy to replace it with.

thanks all!

I just replaced my engine a few months ago. The previous owner drove the piss out of it, and left me with all the problems. She's running like a champ now, and it was thanks to a friend of a friend who helped me out a lot. I picked up a regular 03' protege engine at Mt. Airy Salvage for 700 bucks, compression tested and only 50,000 miles. Plus, it was a regular automatic protege ES, meaning for those 50,000 miles, they probably drove like a weenie.

I got all the necessary parts, and even some unnecessary ones, and paid my buddy's buddy 800 total, since its a little more complex than swap in swap out.

When you get an engine, throw me a PM if you haven't found anyone for the job and I can try and make some phone calls for you.

where are you located? If you can drive to my garage in Northeast Pa I can do it for you on a weekend. I can also probably source you an engine cheap from a local Jy.
