Listening to iPod in the Pro5

I really think that it would be unnecessary to get the Alpine Amp + Head Unit, because the Mazda stock head unit is fine by me. I have the 6-disc CD Changer.

Would anyone know where to buy a stock Mazda Pro5 '03.5 tape deck for cheap?

My FM Transmitter broke, but I wasn't very happy with it any way. It's $50 to get a new one, the one that I want.

Anyways, how do you guys listen to your iPod in your Pro 5?

I got a transpod for christmas, I haven't tried it yet..but supposedly it just hooks into your cigarette lighter..I don't see how it could work the speakers though..I dunno didn't read the directions completely.

I prefer not to use my iPod through my head unit, because I've heard that this way you can only page through a few playlists... and to me, the point of having my iPod in my car was to eliminate the need for CDs (except when the iPod battery dies), because I would have my whole music collection at my fingertips.

I'm not so much a stickler for sound quality.

I'm probably going to buy the iRiver AFT-100 which has overall gotten the best reviews out of all the FM Transmitters on the market right now (outside of the Podfreq, which won't work since I have the new iPod w/ Video)

Would buying and installing the stock tape desk cost a lot?

The stock tape deck costs somewhere around $400. For that price you could get the AuxMod and a car charger for the ipod and be good to go for less than $100. Before I got the AuxMod I used the Monster Cable FM transmitter which worked alright but after using the AuxMod I could never go back to using the FM transmitter. I don't have to fool around with changing the station that the transmitter uses to compensate for local stations when I am traveling long distances. I do however use the Monster Transmitter still but only for power to the ipod. The ipod itself behaves exactly the same using the FM tranmitter or even the headphones as it just a mini stereo plug that goes into the headphone jack on the ipod. The only drawback to the AuxMod is that it can only be used in one car where the transmitter solution is portable, which to me isnt a problem since I still have the transmitter for that.

Or...you could get the ipod ready headunits.
You plug in your ipod, then toss it on the center or the glovebox.
The ipod is controlled by the said HU.
It's a nice alternative, but a little pricey.

Yeah, that looks pretty sweet. Wish I would have waited... Bah well this one works well and costs half the price.

I may look into it further (if it works with the 6-disc) and sell my uninstalled Auxmod. It's a better alternative for me (as I don't like clutter around my shifter/cup holder/power adapter area - already have a holder for my phone - just run the wires behind and into the glove box).

Let me know if you go to sell it - I'm interested.

I use the Kenwood EZ-500 and the iPod interface. iPod in the glovebox, direct line in sound, and controls from the head unit.
