Lights stayed on after arming alarm

In the thread regarding my car having a dead battery, someone mentioned that his lights would stay on after arming the alarm. My car started acting that way also. I know the solution is to have dealer replace the module.

How widespread is this problem?
Is there something that we can do to fix it?

I would rather avoid going to dealer as much as possible. Thanks.

I'm with you man. I've been putting it off for weeks... but I'll probably break down and go today. such a hassle though!!!

I have had the same problem twice. The service manager at my dealer knew what the problem was immediately when I described it on the phone. It happened once, then once again a week later. I was told that it is a 'control module'. I am having it fixed tomorrow at the dealer under warranty.

parking lights stay on in my case the alarm would be constant horn no beeping ... I did lock the car with the key in the door and the lights would go off just so my battery wouldn't drain ... it is just the control module that needs replacing

Yeah, go ahead and get it done if a local reset (described in the manual I believe) doesn't fix it.

Personally, I got motivated when it did drain my battery. :)

Local reset? Do you mean leaving the car key at "On" position and hit the emergency override button? If that's what you mean, I have done it, but it does not do anything.

btw, my alarm went back to normal for a few days after it drained the battery. Maybe disconnecting battery will work the magic?

wtf. mine just started doing this today, right before a long trip....grrrr

where is this emergency override button?

and wouldnt disconnecting the battery reset my head unit settings?

now even turning the car on didnt get the lights off.....wtf

and this came out of nowhere

Where is what I did when the light wouldn't go off:

Kick the tire to make the alarm went off.
Put the car key at the on position.
Fiddled around with the emergency button, kicked the clutch few times, start the car.....

Some how in that the actions I took while the horn was constantly honking, it disarmed the alarm. The quick way is probally disconnect the battery and have a dealer take a look in the next day.

btw, I believe you will loose the head unit setting. I still haven't take my car to dealer. I just have to remember not to use the remote.

i had the problem, the parking lights just wont go off, as much as it sucks the easiest way to fix em is just going to the dealer

this is what it said on my service paper: security module shorted due to internal failure causing lights (parking) to stay on, they had to reprogram both my keyless remotes

Awwwkkkk!

Well now I'm faced w/ this new alarm bug. I tried arming my alarm tonight and my marker lights stay on. I notice that when I open the door I hear a high pitch sound from the alarm module soon as I move a wire or tap the module the sound goes away and the lights shut off. I had to just hit the lock button and leave the alarm disarmed to keep the battery from dying. Guess I'll be contacting Mazda tomorrow. This is ironic... When I had both my VW Corrados and was in the local Vegas VW club w/ other corrado members all the cars went through the same pattern and problems (either sooner or later) each car fell like dominos in each bug/problem announced on the boards at the time (8+ known inherit problems w/ that vehicle) it was funny and weird at the same time. This just sounds to familiar (notcool). Oh well I'm here for the ride w/ this car and the other MSP member:D hopefully we can get this ironed out together.

Hi, I got my MSP a couple weeks ago and my parking lights are doing the same thing described in this thread. I've made an appointment with the dealer, but I'd like to point them in the right direction before they tear apart half the car diagnosing the problem. Is there a technical service bulletin I can mention specifically, or does anyone know the part number of the control module in question? Does replacing the module always fix the problem? Or does it recur again in the future?

Thanks in advance!

Yanno, I didn't read a thing you wrote due to that image of the legs in the back seat. (godown)

Another bug that comes with the MSP :wtf:

I work at a dealership where we had to replace the control modules on 2 brand new (right off the truck) 03.5 titaniums. When you armed them, after about 5 sec. the horn would go nuts. The third one (the one I bought) hasn't acted up yet.

Well, I thought my alarm was fixed but I guess not. Stopped at a convenience store tonight and while waiting in line my horn went off. I could tell it was mine by the sound. Weird thing is that it was one long beep that kept up till I pulled the alarm fuse. Now the lights are staying on again.

Reset doesn't work. Pulling the fuse will turn the lights off but they are back as soon as I put the fuse back in. I disconnected the battery and will hook it back up in the morning. Looks like another 40 mile drive to the dealer for something that should have been done on my last visit. I like attention, but not blaring horn in a public parking lot attention.

Mine stopped acting up on its own! Works fine now. But luckily the lights were staying on when I brought it to the dealer. They had to order a new module for me that still has yet to come in. Supposedly they want to replace my swaybar bushing also when I bring it back. Mm..Ok.

Yeah, mine fixed itself, then broke itself again. That's when the horn when off and wouldn't stop.
