Lighter Socket is Missing

Hello,

Finally decided to register here, I'm not at all an automotive hobbyist (I bow to all of you gurus) but I have owned and loved a couple Mazdas (my beloved 2001 green 6 speed Miata was sold). So my current car is a 02 Mazda Protege 5. When we bought it, used, the cigarette lighter socket was missing. We finally have gotten to the point that we need to fix this. I bought a cheap Walmart socket, but looking at the wiring harness in the mazda, which has an L shaped fixed connector, I'd be a bit more comfortable checking in with you guys first for suggestions. Is there a place online where I could buy a part that would just clip in to this connector? Is there a good wiring diagram that says what is the + and - on the connector?

Any help and advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

Is there any junkyards in your area you could pull this part from? That would prolly be your best bet unless someone here on the forum has it to sell to you. Private messege "Focus". He is doing some part outs and may have this for u

How did you fix this? It seems my cigarette lighter socket is dead as well.

probably a lost connection somewhere behind the dash.

You'd have to take apart the console and look for where the connection was lost.

I've never been behind the dash, but I would assume its just a power wire and a ground. If its missing all together, then they probably pulled it out, and the only reason I can think of of why someone would pull it out is if it stopped working.

So theres probably a loose wire in there. I'd go behind the dash and check the connections, then just find which wire leads to somewhere on the chassis of the car, and which wire leads to the battery or fuse box. connect the wires to the 12v connection holder thing you bought, and your done.

This is kind of an irrelevant post, but I thought I'd share anyway :)

One day while driving I had a metal tipped pen and thought it would be fun to stick it in the lighter socket. I heard a *POP* from the fuse box by my left foot and the radio immediately went off :D

Stupid, I know, but all I had to do was change the fuse. Therefore, we know that it is the radio and the cigarette lighter share a fuse :)
