I do want to go the F/I route, but I'm still under my parents roof, and my dad doesn't think that a turbo is good for a 17 year old, which is understandable.

I would say go for some shock/springs for you next mod then a cutch. Also don't for get kartboy exhaust hanger and montor Mounts THERE A MUST.

hahah that remind me of my brother old b18c hatch, My dad wont' let me have that car, just because it was fast. I feel ya on that one thought, I could have gotten a 12 second hatch by now if it wasn't for my dad,

I guess I commited a Sin! but I was tired as hell last night so when I posted that I just kinda jabber on

save for the turbo... you will thank yourself later when you realize how much money you saved by not buying N/A stuff. I know I'm kicking myself in the ass right now.

Try your best to convince your dad to let you do the turbo. It is worth so much more than NA mods.

It is your $2500 right. Just buy the kit and ship it to your friends house and install it there. no problem. Then if dad finds out...well it is always easier to get forgiveness than permission.

If you can't go the boosted route I still don't suggest the light flywheel. It is a very expensive mod and requires pulling the transmission out of the car. and it should be done in conjunction with a new cluch. it is very labor intensive and if you are paying someone, ...ouch. and not much HP gain, if any.

So, other than boost I say focus on the suspension. Springs, Shocks, Sway bars, braces, light wheels with sticky tires. then go embarrass some people with your wagon at the autocrosses. If any $ after that get a CAI and exhaust.

i think its good his dad is telling him he cant get the turbo. kids who are just starting out driving shouldnt have a car thats fast with a lot of power. Personally i think 18 should be the national age limit for driving. ok people flame me on that statement. Overall we need better training for young drivers before they go on their own.

I say stay N/A. With that much money you can get you a header and a new streighter mid pipe that is the same size as the rest of the exhaust. Get you the flywheel ( I have the 9lbs and love it), put you some Mazda Speed cams (not the same as the MSP), take the Vtcs out port and polish the head to matched the exhaust manifold and intake. Get you an UDP and if anything is lest save it for gas. LOL

Doing an after market turbo IMHO isn't all it's made out to be. Yea you get more power but at what price. So many people have problems with there cars after they install it. Going N/A will get you Nice performance and a fun car thats more reliable to drive.

(mswerd) if you want a turbo car go buy a turbo car...easier to mod and it'd be under warranty(if its new of course).

I agree with all of this. I was quite happy to hear when WI made it law about probationary licenses (16-18yr) that they cannot have any other minors in the vehicle with them or something like that. It prevents are car full of idiot kids from deciding to do stupid things, distracting the driver, or pressuring them into going too fast for the conditions.

1. Maybe if you bought the Book "Maximum Boost" and read it, your Dad might be swayed... There is a boatload of information in there about turbos and its full of formulas (math-not the racing) you could show him how serious you are, and that you want to do it right.

2. If I had $2500 and boost was out of the question i would do CAI/Axleback/Short Shifter/Springs/Sway Bar-- then put in the bump... Headunit/amp/subs(MP5 doesn't take much for good bass & SQ esp if you have the stock A-arm tweeters)
Good Book for Stereo if you know nothing about it-- "Car Stereo Cookbook, Second Edition"

If you're not sure if you want to go turbo/supercharger or naturally aspirated, start with suspension mods. Springs and struts will make the car noticeably more fun to drive and will serve you well regardless of what you do to the engine. A short shifter is also a good buy.

The kartboy is the shortest, in terms of physical height. The B&M is slightly taller, but has a shorter throw. I would go w/ the B&M since it has such a short throw and sits a little higher than the kartboy, so it's more comfortable to use.
