(Just as a FYI - America would not even be CLOSE to a superpower if the South had won the Civil War. Among other things, we probably would have never gotten into WWII, which vaulted the U.S. to the top, where we remain today.)

The 1st Amendment is a joke. If we really truly had all of those rights (Speech, Religion, Press, Petition) our nation would have ceased to exist a long time ago. I think everyone here can agree that no one truly has the right to say whatever they want (in fact there are many members no longer on this board for this very reason). So in respect to what I just said, can we drop the whole "free speech" nonsense?

On another note, one thing I dislike about the U.S.A are the people in it who always feel there is something wrong with it. Sure we have our problems but not every Goddamned thing! We are also way to easy on those who **** up their lives - illegal immigrants, prisoners, those on welfare, etc... To the illegal immigrants, I say "Get the **** out!" To inmates I say "Rot in jail, bitches!" and to those on welfare (and who choose to do nothing about it), I say "Get a Goddamned jo and stop blaming other people for your problems and making others pay for your life!"

Oh yeah, call me immature or uneducated (Ha!), I won't care, so it will get you... no where.

Show me more examples, than not, of where US foreign policy hasn't put US strategic and economic "benefits" ahead of that other nation's own, long term best interests. Foresight is a faux paux in DC.

Let's not even talk the last 58 years (since the doctrine); I'd even go so far to argue/discuss that post-Civil War foreign policy (or even Monroe Doctrine implications that promoted the US as the [sic] "policeman of the Western Hemisphere".) has beget today's state of affairs.

Forcefully "promoting" a preferred economic or political situation in another nation beyond that nations' own will is characteristically impirialistic.

We all know what happens to empires sooner or later.

Like most people who inexplicably engage in political or religious debate, on this forum and elsewhere, you throw out your opinion, and ignore any incoming ideas, repeating your retoric over and over again until people get tired of listening, and leave the discussion. I can only assume you see this as a victory and get some satisfaction out of it, or you wouldn't keep starting these threads. This thread, by the very nature of the title of it, is just fishing for another goddamned political bulls*** flame war.

Dimitrios questioned the validity of our position as a superpower, and rather than offering some proof, or some suggestion of why we are in fact "the good guys", you call him "typical" for criticizing this country, and clearly mean it to demean and belittle him. Criticizing this country is how we begin to change things. If you get right down to it, our right to complain is the very essence of democracy! But that's not good enough for you. People aren't hating America if they have an issue with how thier elected officials are representing them, they're trying to participate in America, and the very philosophies that made this country (however flawed) great.

England, Spain, Portugal....These were imperialist countries.

An imperialist country has colonies around the globe. The imperialist countries try to expand their empire. The United States has never been an imperialist country, at least not for long. The westward migration in the 1800s was not imperialism.

The U.S. has more pull than anyone around the world and we do protect our interests, but find me colonies that we have. We are far from isolationists and far from imperialists.

You actually think that the situation in Iraq makes the U.S. an imperial nation?
