LED Foglights?

Anyone replace stock fogger bulbs with LEDs? Are all 9006 bulbs the same -- are the connectors universal? In other words, if I order LEDs listed as 9006 size replacement, will they be direct plug and play?

I don't want to mess with HIDs and it would be more for looks then function...granted, they couldn't be much more useless then the factory bulbs.

Appreciate the assist.

I would say that it wouldn't work that well considering that LEDs have a relatively miniscule angle of light output compaired to a conventional halogen. Therefore the rear reflective surface in the fog housing won't be utilized by the LEDs. But that being said, the stockers are not only not useful, they also have a lot of light blocked by that metal tab anyway.

yea, you're probably right. I was hoping that the 9006 DRL replacements would fit and put out at least as much light as the stockers. Superbrightleds has a 9 LED replacement 9006 bulb that I was thinking of trying -- now, maybe I'll just forget the whole thing.

We're probably still at least a couple of years away from LEDs becoming a viable alternative to traditional light sources. When you consider what any light does (illuminate and/or indicate) the LED value proposition has always made sense for indicating (everything from TV remotes to tail lights) but with their still rather modest output, they've yet to make a significant impact in the illumination market. (other than, of course, high-end specialty items.)

But like I said, give it a couple years and things will begin to change. My company (Lumileds) has an LED that's capable of producing as much light as a 60 watt lightbulb. It'll crank at 80%+ for 20k hours and 50%+ for 100k... and obviously it's extremely small. The downside of course... the price. At $60 each it's not exactly going to be replacing anyone's lightbulb anytime soon.

i either read or heard somewhere that there are future plans to abolish all incandescent light bulbs due to their inefficiency and electricity consumption. if and when this happens the LED market will explode (it already has become a lot bigger in the past few years than it has before), along with HID bulbs in smaller applications. fluorescent bulbs have already been replacing a lot of household light fixtures.

i wouldn't be surprised if LEDs ended up in all vehicle applications someday, right along side with HID lamps.

Sure they might be the future of lighting, but theres nothing in the market (as of now) for fogs that will put out even as much light as regular halogens for any where near the same price you can get "white" bulbs or 35 watt HID kits. The new Lexus LS600 has the worlds first LED headlights though (6 freaking projectors!), they cost almost 7000 dollars a pair.

A few members over at rx8club swapped out their halogen foglight (iirc H11 or 9005?) for LED bulbs from VLED.

They used these $59.99 bulbs from v-led (not including shipping).

And the results...

They look bright in the picture but they're no where as bright as halogens and you probably won't even notice the difference from the driver seat when your foglights are on.They are only for style (6k to match HID's). It's going to suck when they fry too. You're better off with 35 watt HID's or white bulbs like Silverstars.

Australia plans to ban all incandescent bulbs by 2010.

I was hoping that since I've got pretty good light from a LED light I use on my bike that I would be able to find something that would put out descent lighting for the fogs -- but you guys are right...it's either cost prohibitive or a few years away.

appreciate all the input -- I'll go with plan b.

those in that rx8 look awesome, but I bet they dont light up s***. I can see why they would do it for "looks" but still $60 for just teh leds that dont light anything up? Might as well buy a $60 hid kit from ebay that will actually light up the ground

*sigh*....if only i could have rotary power, but that's a different topic

and i thought there was an infinity (maybe m class) that had LEDs for headlights. there were like 6 in a pentagon shape with 1 in the middle. i should search before i post this but...meh

thats the Infinity Q45. Someone on the 350z forums modded one into the 350z headlights and it was amazing. Looks very cool.

i have 6k VLED fogs. they are bright in the day and really bright at night but dont put out lumens so they dont light up the road. got em for cosmetic reasons. not for use

but these are the VLED fogs in direct sunlight facing the car. this was around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. peek sunlight. the LEDS are really bright. its something how they can be so bright in the day and not put out enough lumens for visability at night

They're not LEDs. They're just lenses.
