leaking shocks

2007 Mazda 3s
Hello everyone. I have a 2007 Mada3s with 35,000 miles. I got it inspected last week and they said my shocks were leaking and I needed to replace them or it would fail inspection. It was not under warranty because I bought it in Nov of 2006, but it does not have that many miles on it. Is this normal or did they just take me for a ride? Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

I'm guessing it's your passenger rear leaking; it goes first, super common. Go buy some new ones and bolt them up. I just put some Bilstien's in. I think there's a design flaw with the car. Our car has 46k on it. The fronts are fine, I can almost promise you that. You can simply look through your rear wheel spokes and look for the fluid on the shocks. If you see it, then the seals went. If not, then they are toying with you. But it is very common for rears to go out at such a low mileage. Pretty soon you will start hearing clunking which will sound like something bouncing around in the trunk......it's a faulty shock. Took me all of amount 30 minutes to change both sides

2 bolts from inside the wheel well, one at the bottom. Take the shock mount off the top, put on the new one, and put it back in the car. One of the easiest swaps I've ever done. Way easier than our P5 which always had rusted out end links, the 3 doesn't have them attached to the shock :)
