Leaking IC pipes

went out today and stuck a cloth in that callaway box opening. NOthing. No stalling, no change in anything.

If there is a leak, where would it likely be? I can hear air in around the engine, but I don't know if it's normal or not. This is my 1st Turbo car.

Where's this infamous picture of our engine with everything labelled?

Mine stalled. At this point, I was kinda hoping that it wouldn't. At least then I would know... I guess maybe the BPV is leaking under boost or something. Anyone know how to check the BPV for leaks?

newf: I think you probably have a leak if it didn't even hesitate. When I tried, it felt like it was gonna suck my hand in the end of the CAI and then died. Did you check that callaway snorkle thing to see if it was loose?

when I put my hand in by the calloway snorkle thing, there's not much suction to it

to the dealer I go I guess.

update. Went out then and tried it. Lots of suction when the fan cuts in, but then there's not a whole lot when it's off.

Car does not stall.

Find that boost leak and take off your MBC. Cranking up an MBC while a boost leak is present will leave your wastegate shut and overspin your turbo ( sometimes to the point of blowing up ).

The best way Ive found to locate boost leaks is to put the car on a dyno and apply soapy water to areas you think are possible locations for it to happen.

My MBC has been off since I realized there was a problem. I put it back on once just to test everything with a friend, and used JoeP's "barely be able to blow through it" method to kinda set it up.

I have no access to a dyno in my area and am thinking about just getting hard pipes and probably a ssqv with the recirc fitting. Hopefully that will be the end of it.

soapy water?
good idea but i wouldnt let that get into the engine.

try getting some carb cleaner and spray all the connections. If the idle soars or goes up at any point then you have your leak.

Do you still have the stock recirciulating valve on the car??
Ill help you find the problem hesitationhater and newf but i need some more info

Come on man...Think a little. God gave you a brain for a reason, now use it!

Soapy water is there for a boost leak. As in, a leak that occurs when postivie pressure is present. Its not going to get sucked into the engine. It will just bubble up wherever the leak is at.

If you want a cheap solution that works but...well, doesn't look that...great. Go to an exaust company. Not like a Midas or " Name Brand " place, but a local with a bender. Get him to make some stainless parts, take some 1000 grit sand paper to them. Get em chromed and get some silcicon pipe connectors with some hose clamps. Cheap Zoom Zoom without leaks. Later

where did he get his intercooler????? that thing is sick!!!!

I have injen CAI and FPR kit, everything else is stock. I took off the MBC the same day I put it in.

I think it's probably the BPV after getting good suction and a stall when covering the intake. I could not hear any leaks, and neither could my friend who was listening closely.

The best way you can help me is to make hardpipes with flange for ssqv.:D

Adam are you kidding me!!!
when you let off the throttle what happens slick??
are you testing a tire for a leak or a turbo charged internal combustion engine?
i wasnt flaming you. just giving a precaution. All of a sudden you became a ******* expert and im not using my brain. I also said i thought carb cleaner would be better. Under vaccum you will notice a SURGE i said and that will be your sign. i guess you got this s*** handled!! so ill let you continue to spew nonsence

Buddy...Its a BOOST leak. He doesnt have a vacuum leak ( or at least hasnt mentioned it... ).

And using carb cleaner wont do anything because ( like I just said... ) he doesnt have a vacuum leak. Hes got a connector somewhere, or a crack somewhere thats only seperating during boost. Youre not going to find it at idle, and nothing is going to be sucked in.

Now for gods sake, use your head next time.

I don't think it is a vaccum leak, but I will try the carb cleaner just to make sure (thanks perf).

adamlewis-
If it is a boost leak only(no vaccum), then I would think that it is most likely in the BPV and using soapy water wouldn't do anything. However I do agree with Perfworks about soapy water and intake plumbing. It is under pressure when turbo is spooling, but that IS where the engine is getting air- likely to suck it in if there is a break anywhere. Soapy water is better for tires or stuff that is under pressure ONLY.

Look...This is the last time Im gonna try and say it. People have done this to diagnose boost leaks for a long time. No water is going to get sucked in from there. Its only going to get blown out. Thats why its leaking in the first place...Because air is blowing out of it...

Youre not going to get any of it in your intake unless you stick it somewhere near a low pressure part of the intake. Such as before the compressor.
