Leaking coolant from where exactly?

Read the ending of my post above as I changed it while you were writing me back on the your last post. I'm glad you told me what they charged for the CV joint. See, here I get that done for about $80. There's a place that takes it off, replaces the worn parts and reassembles it to put back on the car. Either the lack of competition makes your prices higher for being small cities or he actually replaced it with a new or remanufactured part from his supplier. The latter would make the job just as cheap as it would be here if that was the case. If you already went somewhere and had a good experience, you may want to stick to that place. Once again, explain to him about the two small bolts that face from front-to-back at the outlet tube that goes into the pump on the bumper side of the pump. If I did it, he can do it but it just plain sucks. I will let you go for now unless you ask me something else. However, I want to know what the problem turned out to be and how it got repaired(you or mechanic) and how much it cost. That's even if you called a couple of auto parts stores for a price on the pump and did it yourself.

Thanx, i will explain him about the oil tube.
The CV join he replaced, he charged me 75$ for the labour(most other places were asking 100$) and the part which was not just the CV joint, but the whole drive shaft, was 65$. So the total was around 144$.
Good night for now, and i will keep you posted of my progress.

Water pump

You totally have a water pump issue. I had mine go out on my 97 mazda. It sits behined the main crank pulley which means that the timing belt has to come off to replace it. I had all this replaced at the same time. valve cover gasket, timing belt, water pump. It cost me about 350 bucks to get it all done.

Wait a minute, I know on a LOT of cars you have to remove the timing belt to take off the water pump. However, I just can't recall right now having had to do that. It feels like I didn't. It was a 95 1.5 Protege just like his. Edd, is your Protege an ES with the 1.8 engine? If it is that might be the difference or some minor change to the 1.5 as you see other differences with 95/96 compared to the 97/98 models.

Well, i went to a couple of places today to see how much they were asking for changing the water pump on my Protege.
The first place i went to didn't wanna get even into that because they knew what a nightmare it would be to change that. Instead he gave me a phone number of another place that deffinitely does this kind of work.
But before i went there i went to another bigger place. It was called Firestone Total Car Care, and i had them do a pressure test on the system.
They found out that the water pump deffinitely is leaking.
The total price they gave me was 459$.
180$ was for the pump(a new one, not remanufactured) and the labour was gonna be 250$, because it's a 4 hour job.
I told them that this is a bit steep, and they were like, yeah, but it's a new water pump, and that a remanufactured one can go out any time again.

Needless to say i left that place and went to see the place whose phone number the first place i went to gave me.
They said that the labour would be 250$ as well, and the pump(also a brand new one) would be around 80-90$. So, the total with tax and everything would be 344$.
He laughed when i told him that Firestone was quoting me 180$ for the new pump.
Anyway, i figured it's worth the money, because the car actually is in a very good condition technically and the inside looks like new. I am the second owner and bought the car from the same dealership where it was bought new in 1995. It's previous owner had traded it in for another Mazda.
He actually had bought four Mazdas from that dealership.
So, i guess he was pretty happy with that Protege then and it served him well. Anyway, i am gonna take it in tomorrow evening so that he can start working on it on wednesday.
I just hope that this water pump is the only place it is leaking from and i will get off with 350$ and not a cent more.
