lcd vs plasma vs dlp = they all suck?

i have a sharp 45" it's res is 1280x1080 capable of 1080p when it's available. i love it i thinks it's one of the best tv's i have ever owned. nice thing about lcd is you don't have to worry so much much about image burn.

Are you sure about that resolution. That is typcily a computer display resolution as it is not 4:3 or 16:9. Also, it can not do a 1080P signal as that would require 1920 lines of horizonatal resolution. It will do a 720p signal though

Best Buy carries the Westinghouse 37" LCD 1080p monitor for < $2000 (I believe its like $1899). It is a monitor, meaning it has no standard cable coaxial inputs or tuner. But it does 1920x1080, and has a plethora (would you say I have a plethora?) of inputs.

I haven't seen the A10 series in person but have read some good things about them. It's actually one of the ones I'm looking at.

Problem with my area is that the only tv's they keep on the shelves are the generic POS brands, and lower models.

I already have a DLP, front projection, 110" 16:9 fixed High gain screen built into my wall. I only use it for movies and the occasional gaming when company comes over. It's in another room. But, I don't want my everyday TV to require replacing bulbs as well. The woman has a bad habit of leaving the TV on all day even though she isn't even watching it. I don't want to have to worry about bulb replacements on the main tv.

Then just make buying/replacing bulbs her job.

I just looked up the cost of the bulb and its only $250 which isn't terrbile compared to the ones I have to replace in boardroom projectors.

Hmmmm, something tells me you haven't learn a valuable lesson about women just yet :)

The 250.00 comes out of my pocket....regardless if she buys it or I do :)

And it's about 400 Canadian for the infocus bulbs in the projector I already have. Not bad. We have projectors at work that are much more costly to get bulbs for.

I know that feeling...gotta love women and the ability to completely half ass responsibilty

The average lamp price for the projectors we sell is $550 so the $250 was a bit of a releaf.

I have a plan, per my agreement with tweeter and Sony I can not sell the TV within one year. After that, perhaps you'd want it? :D

You could do some research at www.avsforum.com the site is full of lots of info. The only bad thing is those guys over there are such super hard core, dare I say "techno weenies" that they can find something wrong with EVERYTHING. LOL.

On a good note the A10 series is getting better reviews from those guys than just about everything.

These are the type of ppl that will stare at a screen from 1" away for hours to find something wrong....so it seems LOL

yeah I am a member of avsforum. became one when I was building the theater downstairs.

I know what what you mean about the techno weenie comment all to well. Becomes frustrating reading that forum sometimes.

1sty....yeah, if you sell the tv....ya never know :)

wow lots of good info and makes me feel that my circa 1988 20" Citek Tvin my room just isn't cutting it anymore. hahahah
I never heard of the locos tv's. Is this like top of the line for now? damn I hate being poor. It's one reason I dont really research this stuff cause then I feel sad (sad2) cause I cant afford it. heh

I just bought a dlp front projector from toshiba. 30-300 inches, no rainbows at all, 1800 lumens and 800X600 resolution all for $450.

If you think 800X600 ain't much, well thats higher than most HD and higher than

DVD.

Ummm, 800x600 isn't 16:9. You have a "business" projector I'm guessing, of which the colors are usually washed out in comparison to a proper Home theater projector. At 300", 800x600 is going to look really REALLY bad. Why 300"? What kind of wall do you have ? :) If you play a 16:9 movie on it, your screwing up your resolution anyways.

not to mention at 300" your "1800 lumens" projector is going to be very faint in anything but pitch black.

As for 1800 lumens, you might be surprised to find out what the actual real life lumen output of your projector really is. Fact is, they never meet their advertised output once calibrated and are substantually lower on most models. It's kind of the same story with watts on stereo equipment and certain manufactures

But, nothing wrong with 450.00 for it that's for sure And you are right, the cost of a projector beats any plasma/lcd tv out there for the size you can get. If you are the type that watches movies in the dark anyways, these little projectors are a great bang for the buck.I would recommend a proper 16:9 projector though unless you need 4:3 for old games or something. I love my Infocus 4805. There are tons better out there, but for dvd's ( which are 480i/p max anyways) it's amazing. I'll keep it until 1080p projectors are the norm in a few years. Figure I'll need a new bulb by then anyways

yeah, its 4:3 and plenty bright. Its does just fine in my room with two windows during the day with an overhead light on just 5 feet from the top edge of the screen.

If I can only get duck hunt to work on it. =)

Ya, if your perfectly happy with your tv and want to find something wrong with it that you never knew was there, take a stroll on over to that forum lol.

My sony 42A10 is at home in the box waiting to be set up =)

LOL, how true is that!'

Let us know how you like the TV

I'm jealous. I was pricing them locally. the 40a10 was 3299 Canadian and the "best" price on the island, and I would have to pay about 50.00 to ship it a small distance.

Picked mine up for 1,620. Will let ya know how I like it. I was dead set on a 34" widescreen panasonic tube but ended up with this. Hope I made the good call.

He is right about the resolution, Sharp has had their 45" LCD flat panel out for over a year and it is 1920 x 1080, 1080p panel. Damn fine looking unit and only $5000 now, was $8000 last year.

Their new 65" was supposed to be out last month but was delayed.
