M=SP^2 said:How do you know this car won't be all those things. 276 horespower from a 2.3 L is pretty damn good, it should be reliable since the car will produced entirely in Japan (not assembled in port like the MSP), and you don't know how it will handle...no one has driven the car outside of a F1 racetrack yet. The people who are haters just immediately jump to conclusion and start flaming away.
ChiMSP said:I'm not hating on it... but God damn it if i'm gonna spend $30,000 I wan't it to look like a $30,000 car. Regular people won't be able to tell the difference.
SciFiMan said:I agree! I think the car looks great (although I might change the rims eventually) and is on my short to-buy-next list. It should outsell the Miata handily, since most people can't afford a weekend play car; or have kids, or have to carry 3+ people or stuff, etc. Some cars have great spec sheets but suck in real life, some are opposite. Let's give it a chance before we kill it. Besides, who here hasn't done a mod on their less than $20K Protege? The Speed6 will have parts for it too, and starts at a much higher performance level. Not everyone wants the boy racer look, but appreciates refined speed. From all the pics of tasteful, subtle upgrades I've seen here, I'd say most don't care for the "Hey, look at me!" statement. All it needs is a nice set of Proxes T1-S.
SciFiMan said:What's a $30K car look like? So you want the grandma driving by to be impressed with how much you spent on your car? The mom in the six year old minivan? The guy in the Boxer? The girl in the accounting dept. that you want to take on a date? Get an Acura TL A-Spec. That looks like you spent some money. 28-30 grand isn't that much for a well spec'd car these days. "Regular people" look for leather and a navigation system to denote money. They have no idea what zoom-zoom is all about and don't think about it during a test drive. Mazda is making the Speed6 for people like us, so appreciate it (and the Legacy GT, etc.) because there aren't that many to choose from that regular people can afford.
