I would like to hear some opnions on good Laser/Radar dectors in the $150 - $200 range max.

I haven't bought one before so I am not sure what makes one better than another...

Dont even bother with anything else..Get the V1.If all the cannon ball runners/gumball ralley race winners say the V1 is the best then Im taking there word for it.Also a jammer is nice to have also.

V1 with veil laser protection

laser is almost instant, but veil gives you a few seconds of reaction time (it's a coating for license plate/headlights or anything else shiny so it decreases the effective range of the laser)

V1 = $399.. Get one, it is the best out there and the only one that is constantly upgradeable after purchase.

try circuit city's website, they have a radar detector that mounts anywhere so it can be kept out of site.

off topic but does anyone know where i can find a scale model for the 2003.5 protege mazdaspeed?

I use a beltronics pro rx55 and it has saved me over a dozen or more times aready. I don't drive without it and would definitely recommend it as a cheaper alternative. The V1 is probably among the best you'll find so if you can get one used go for it.

I'll prolly end up grabing the valentine 1 however I may be able to get an extremely good deal on a escort 9500i I'll have to wait and see.

i have a v1 and it works pretty damn well. i'm pretty darn sure it's about as good as you can get, but as far as bang for the buck, i don't think $400 is the best price vs performance you can get...^^; my main reason in the end for choosing the v1 over the other top-of-the-line detectors was that the v1 can be mounted with a concealed display. i don't want the unit's lights to be easily viewable outside of the vehicle, so i got and mounted the optional concealed display for my v1 and mounted it on my steering column. this was definitely a personal choice thing. if i hadn't gotten the v1, i would have gotten the bel sti.

I did that too.

The Valentine One is the best.

Want to save money on a V1:

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. Tell them you don't mind being put on the waiting list. Guaranteed, they will ship a V1 out within 2 days. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.863 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

Escort Passport 9500i.. just as good if not better than the V1 and you can use the GPS to mark out the few false alarms that pop up as well as any false K bands.

Can also mark on GPS where there are speed cameras and speed traps. If you are traveling you can download other owners speed traps from the GPS...

(upyours) -> (five-0)

if you're going to spend money on it, get the v1 - its the only one that has arrows to tell you where the threat is coming from and it's the only one that tells you how many threats are out there. Others have similiar range, but it's nice to know if the cops are setting a trap for you.

For example, there was a cop sitting by one of the "speed limit is 55, your speed is XX SLOW DOWN" signs. Everyone got used to seeing radar detectors going off because of the sign so no one paid attention to the "false hit" also no one realized that the cop was sitting there running radar too. The v1 showed 2 bogeys where as other detectors went "beep"
