Laser/Radar Detectors

I don`t know about biasness, but i just ran into the article and it seems to cover both radars in great depth.

V1 only one to tell you how many and what direction. Period.
Anyone that is a supposed "unbiased tester" but sells a certain brand probably ain't so unbiased.(scratch)

Jim

comparing the sti vs the v1 .... only get the sti if detectors are illegal in your area. It's the only one that cannot be picked up with a "radar detector detector"

Well i will probably pick up an STI myself only because its new and incoporates many extra functions for the same price.I am satisfied with the article too.

Radartest.com is run by a guy named Craig Peterson who works for Bel and Escort so he bashes the V1 every chance he gets. He got busted trying to sabotage the Guysoflidar.com 2007 radar detector test and he will probably have to part with a couple thousand dollars on top of the $1000 radar gun that he hid under camoflauge on top of a mountain to throw off the testing. Mr. Peterson is a loser that tried to sway the public but he got busted in the act. Bel and Escort should be ashamed for using this dummy to promote their products.

Make your own decision, but be careful putting all your trust in the guy that runs radartest.com. Besides, you can buy a Bel from that site and to me, that doesn't represent complete impartiality. But, read on...some interesting information.

Radar Detector Sabatoge!

Before someone responds with "So what" on the above link...do a little bit of research before posting. You may wonder what this is all about.

There does seem to be a lot of impartiality when it comes to some of the testing going on with radar detectors. Especially when you consider that the V1 is only available through their web site if bought new. That has put some resent in the detector market.

Ask yourself...why is it that over the years, the V1 is the detector that all other detector makers try to live up to? The V1 is updatable, of course for money as it is not free, so it is meeting new radar technologies developed. It is not a continued 1990's technology.

The owner of this site also works for Bel, our so I have read a couple of times.

I have had them all and nothing beats the V1.

There is lots of things to read on the V1 site also. the owner of V1 was asked to work for Bel and if I remeber correctly turned them down.

I've owned Beltronics for over 5 years now and I am more than happy with its performance. Its warned me about Ka band 7 miles away from its source...can't beat that!!!

I don't know who is ultimately better between V1, Beltronics, Escort, etc... I just know that Beltronics has never let me down...except for that time I got paced by an aircraft...(pissed) (bang) But I fought that one in court and got off!!! WAHOO!!!(first)(2thumbs)

LOL@craig peterson!!! (rlaugh)

since there's two sides to each story, i really wonder what his reaction to that was...i mean, it's awfully convenient that they found that box with his name on it and everything... for all we know, some random person might have tried to set him up!

I've been a V1 owner for 8 years now. Their customer service has always been top notch (for repair when I baked it too much in the sun, and an upgrade). There is no substitute for the arrows and the bogey count. Some detectors now have caught up in range, and the STI is the only one that is invisible to the detector-detectors used in VA... but I still use the arrow locator and count on the highway all the time.

I'm not worried about laser detection nearly as much, because unless conditions are unfavorable for the LIDAR gun, you're still not going to get warned (consistently) early enough unless you're lucky -- even with Veil coating and the IR jammers.

I have a question with the conceiled display. i own a V1 in my Toyota Seqouia. I have had it for 5 years. We do not have the concieled display though.

But, with the conceiled display, where do you install the main unit? I was on their website, but it did not make any sense on where you put the main unit. DO you install it in the window, do you even need it, or can you put it somewhere else in the car?

It needs an unobstructed view front and rear to work properly. It needs to be pointed straight, and it's better for radar detection if it's up high. I put mine on the left in my truck for 7 years, in the middle on my craptastic wheat rocket (Plymouth Acclaim) for a year, and behind my rear view mirror in my MS3. You can put it somewhere else in the car, but changing the volume or turning on/off will be a pain in the ass. Most radar threats come from in front of you, so it's better to keep it up front.

Here's how mine's installed in my MS3. Look beside the RVM.

Same here, my Bel has yet to let me down. I was all set on getting something higher end like the v1 but right now I see no reason to. I don't need direction info and the warning distance I get with the Bel is more than adequate for me to adjust my speed. Maybe if the cops all start using lidar then I'd need to switch but so far the majority is still ka and k.

Rylan, do you have issues getting those suction cups to stick where you have it mounted? The surface isn't perfectly smooth, so it makes mine fall off. I've since replaced it with a set of velcro things...=/

It stuck for one day the first time I put it there. I then licked my finger, applied spit to the suction cups, and it's been stuck solid for more than a month now in freezing temps with no problems whatsoever.

Another trick you can try if you don't want to be gross like me is to apply two squares of tape over the dots, and then put the suction cups on the squares.

PS. Is your avatar Genma Saotome?
