check out www.overstock.com. They have lots of factory refurbs with warranties for great prices. I got my wife an 500mhz Thinkpad with 128megs of ram, a 12 gig HD, and a 14" screen for $499. When it came it was like brand new and still going strong.

you want at least 256mb of ram.. I have a thinkpad with 256mb of ram and a 700mhz celeron processor. It works great.

Of course the more RAM the better. But I have 256mb of ram and a measly 700mhz chip and it does the job. Probably the best combo for price and functionality.

Markspark is right. For just surfin the web, you don't need a whole lot of Speed, just ram.... but I like speed...

Yeah, just check ebay. Like I said, at LEAST 256mb of ram. The more the better, but you'll pay for it. Thinkpads have a red plastic thingy in the middle to control the mouse. There's no optical pad like most, but that's something I've learned to enjoy about Thinkpads.
