Knock Retard frequent ~5 minutes after starting?

Maybe this is normal, I'm just asking..

I see knock retard kick in about 5 minutes or so after I start the car. I'm usually on the freeway by then at a constant speed, so I don't think I'm doing anything that causes KR to kick in. Usually the DH will flash a couple of times and then they go away.

I get this too. Don't take this as fact just yet, but my hypothesis is that oil blow-by is the cause. I personally get this same thing. In fact, this is the only time that I ever see KR in the 6-8 degree range! It just so happens that this is also around the only time that my exhaust starts smoking.

Here's my theory; oil blows by into the IM, pulled into the engine and burned (=smoke). Oil has a much lower octane rating than premium, so combustion would be hotter and possibly contribute to engine knock. I don't know if you are seeing smoke or not, but I have eliminated one of my cats. If you don't see smoke, it could just be getting masked by the dual cats (I'm going by your sig).

Again, just a theory at this point, but I do have a Saikou Michi catch can going in this weekend. I'll report back here if it works...

I'm not too sure you'll see much reduction in KR from the catch can Super ... I've got one and stay off the boost until the car warms up, otherwise KR is easier to see while the engine is still not up to op. temp..

Your comments on the reduction of octane from oil vapours, etc. are true and the c.c. will help.

I can dream, can't I? :D
