2003 MP5 Black Mica
Well this P5 now has 4,500 miles and it is at the dealer for the third time. 1st time was for a disconnected wire on the starter at 500 miles which was three hours from my house. The second and third time are for the cold engine rattle. On the first visit for the cold engine rattle, the dealer reprogrammed the computer. The car is now back at the dealer, and it is still there. They told me they were going to contact mazda today. It is now like 15 degree's in wisconsin and my car sounds like a VW diesel for the first 5 minutes you drive the car. I have never heard any other new car make sounds like this when cold. I do not care if it was supposibly designed like this. The dealer sent me home with a rental car. I told the service manager I am not stisfied and will pursue any avenue possible to get it fixed or I want a different car, or mazda can buy it back. Mazda should get there head out of there ass and call there cars knock, knock, knock instead of zoom, zoom, zoom. :bs: :wtf:

I must admit that my auto P5 doesn't sound so good when cold. I used to drive a Honda Civic ( I'm sorry but it was a company car) and it was pretty smooth even when cold. My P5 kind of sputters along for the first couple of minutes. Even if I let it warm up first. It just doesn't sound as good as when it's been driving for about 5 minutes. Oh well, otherwise its been good. Sorry you have had so much trouble with yours.

Be glad they're being cool about the cold engine rattle.
My dealership told me that they did the fix but they only did part of it, which was the ECU flash - they never replaced my VTCS valve like they were supposed to. When I brought that to their attention they lied out of their asses to not have to order this little part and put it in my car.

-"oh, you're looking at a different TSB than we are, that's not a Mazda TSB"
-"well, the flash that we did was actually to fix another problem, there was a miscommunication between me and the tech"
-"we didn't tell you that we flashed your car with some other fix because it's an automatic fix under warranty"

and so on...

So, at least they're being nice and fixing it for you.

knock,knock,knock

I would not say they are working with me 100%. They did put me in a rental car for two days so far.:) The service manager did tell me that he heard it and that the mechanic had also verified that it is quite loud. They have had the car for two days now and Iam waiting to hear from them today. The service manager had told me yesterday that they were waiting for a responce from mazda, because they do not know what to do with it.:wtf:Maybe they are replacing the valve this time, because they said initially they would need the car for two days. I did tell them that I was totally dissatisfied with this car and frequency of repairs since new, and that I would refuse to pick the car up untill they have fixed correctly, and if they or mazda cannot fix it, I will bring it back untill it qualifies for the lemon law, it's there choice.:)

There's no way they need your car for 2 days. I was only there two days - separate days - because like I said, they didn't finish the job. Putting in the new VTCS valve (check the TSB, your car might not even need a new valve depending on your year and VIN) takes a second, it just might take them a few days to order and receive it. Flashing takes another second. It's not a 2 day job, that's crap.

knock,knock,knock

My car is a 2003.5, it was made june 2003. I don't care how long they keep it as long as I get to keep the TOYOTA SOLARA rental. For some reason I think it might be internal, because I cannot believe that vlave would sound like a rod knock. At noon today they will have had it for 2 days. They told me they verified the correct program was in the computer and they did not know what to do next. This car has not been beaten, and the oil was changed at 1,200 miles, and again at 3,800 when it was changed to mobil 1 SYN 5w30.:)

Ok, so you don't need the valve replacement. That's weird then, it really might not be something related to this tsb.
