Keyless System Malfunction

2018 CX-5

Dealer installed C960 V7 620 Remote Engine Start module

After changing the battery, the remote start is non-functional, and the display cluster is showing "Keyless System Malfunction"

I have run through the registration procedure as described here:
Registration Procedure Of the Controller

Upon the final step, I am given three long and four short beeps from the C960 module. The vehicle attempts to start (cluster lights up) but then the message above is displayed.

I'm guessing I have to take it to the dealer to get it cleared, but I'm hoping someone else may have a process to register the C960 module.

It may be due to the fact the module has already been enrolled with the SSU, but I can't be sure.

All of the other features of the SSU are functional (fob unlock/lock, walk-away locking works, and the vehicle starts without touching the fob to the start button)/

I'll do a self-reply.

A lot of what is thrown around about this issue is the "disconnect the negative battery" thing, so I tried it.

Well, it worked.

Disconnected battery for about an hour.

Reconnected the battery. Ran through the process to link the remote start as prescribed in the document posted.

Remote start appeared to link with SSU. Remote start did not work until driver door was opened and shut.

No more "Keyless System Malfunction" message. Remote start works as intended.

As for tending the 12v during a battery change, I would recommend it for this series if there is remote start.

I love the CX-5, I hate this type of stuff for factory parts.
