keyless entry

has anyone had to get their keyless entry reprogrammed?
I didn't get it reporgramed. I programed a new remote control to work with the car using existing codes the car uses. Is that what you meant?

My keyless entry stopped working on monday. i thought maybe it was the batteries but i tried new ones in each remote but it still didn't work. called mazda and they said they'd have to reprogram the keyless entry. was wondering if anybody had this happen to them.

my remote that i always used stopped working from long distance and often doesn't work when i am right next to the car. i also replaced the battery but it didn't help. do you guys know what's up?

call mazda. i hope when i go they can solve the problem. mine doesn't work close or far. it just up and stopped working(during NJ's big storm no less)...no warning.

hmm, my warranty ended couple of months ago. i wonder what they would charge for that and whether that is the remote problem or the receiver in the car..

I'm in NJ also and suffered the same rainstorm and the remote is fine so there's no problems from the car's end. Maybe you have a bad remote controller. Go to Ebay and look for them That's where I picked up an extra remote and programmed it to work with the car. It's less than $15 or $20 from Ebay so it's worth a shot. They do give you programming instructions and it is really easy.

I just talked to the guy at my mazda dealership to price remotes (I just bought a P5 and it didnt have any) and they told me they were $60. I said I could get them cheaper online, and he said they'd program them for free.

I've also read that there are writeups online that tell you how to do it.

check the underhood fuses. I have had mine stop working, and the interior light stopped working and also the trip odometer reset when the car was turned off, it was a fuse.

I will check the fues and see if thats the culprit. thats for the info guys. does the manual tell you how to reset the system if at all possible?

Programming it is easy as hell. If I recall correctly here's how you program a new remote:
1. Put the key in the ingition and leave the driver door open and unlocked (you'll have to deal with the key reminder chimes but just deal with it).
2. Turn the key and back 3 times. Don't actually start the car. Just turn it enough to get the lights on the dash going.
3. Now, with the door open, look for the little black switch on the door jam that controls the interior light. After you do the thing with the key, push on that switch 3 times. Then push on the top button on the remote. The car doors should lock.

That's pretty close to the programming procedure but you'll get the exact instructions when you get the remote from the remote guy at ebay. No biggie.

I did this w/a Honda that was preprogrammed for keyless entry but was not on the vehicle I purchased. Just bought the remotes off of eBay and saved an ass of money...the programming was very similar to the above-mentioned steps.

i tried it but it was a no go. i will just wait until i get mazda to reprogram it next week.

It is something like that but you have to click the unlock and then lock button like 3 times too sometimes.

seeing as nobody has a definative answer for how to reset the system i will just wait til next week. i don't feel like spending my day trying millions of combinations....i will just have to open and lock the car old school style(never thought i'd become so dependant on this keyless entry)

I was just excited to find out (after I bought the car) that I have it. because my car didnt come with any remotes.

I got my remotes yesterday, they rock. Dead Easy to program. Instructions above should work fine.

Oh, and I got two for under $25 shipped.

I was able to reprogram my remotes but the correct way to do it was not listed in this thread. once you do the on and off you must remove the key from the ignition(that is the step that was left out)

so you reprogrammed the original remotes and they work fine now? i gotta go try this on my remote.
