I have an MS6 GT (smart key) and whenever I get in the car over the past couple of days, the "key" icon on the dashboard is constantly on while I'm driving....it's red. I can no longer use the exterior handle unlock, however, I can still click the key fob and it will unlock.

Any ideas before I call the dealer??

Thanks!!

The manual says it should blink red, not be solid red......but I'll give it a shot.

solid red means you have to change it too. i just did mine and it went away

It could be the battery, but mine was a different part. The dealership had to replace the antenna for the keyless entry system which I believe is on the rear bumper. Mine had the same problem for a while, but eventually got to the point that I had to put the actually key in the ignition to start the car. Try the antenna if the battery doesn't work first.

It actually fixed itself (somehow). No more red light, and I can use the exterior unlock buttons. Hopefully it happens again prior to my warranty expiration so I can bring it in!

Sounds like my old problem, thats how it started. Eventually it got to the point where the exterior never worked, then to where the keyless start didnt work. Even worse, One of the hard keys stopped working and I had to use a spare. Figured that was a good time to take it to the dealership. And btw, the key system is only covered under the bumper-to-bumper part of the warranty, so if you're out of that, you're payin for it :'(

sounds like you have a bad antenna for the smart key. there are three, one in each front door and one located in the rear bumper. the one for the rear bumper is super easy to get to. get underneath the bumper and about dead center on the backside of the bumper, there is a small rectangular box held by two screws. that's one of the three antenna sensors and it's the same one i'm going to take off and look at today.

there's another thread with me saying i was going to replace it and have yet to do it from over a month ago. even though i was underneath the car several times in the past couple of weeks screwin' with my test pipe and exhaust, i've yet to do it. i looked at it once and have completey forgotten all about it.

hope this helps.

Yeah I had this issue when I first bought my MS6. Solid Red "KEY" light no matter what I can't remember where I saw it but under certain conditions(cold weather) part of the antenna can break. This was covered under warranty for me. Once this happens, that red light comes on and the exterior buttons no longer work at all. They(the dealership if you still have the bumper to bumper warranty) will have to replace the antenna with a modified one that they started to have to make after many complaints of this came in. The newer modified antenna is better suited for cold weather temps. I have not had the problem since then, regardless of battery strength in my remote.

I think its time for me to look at this too... my door buttons have stopped working again, and I have to push the remote between 5 - 20 times for it to lock. For some reason unlocking isn't as bad, and starting the car is rarely a problem. I'll try battery first, then I'll look under the bumper.
