Key FOB getting flaky

My key FOB is becoming unreliable. Some times it won't unlock the doors or allow the car to start. My CX9 is a 2010 Touring and is about 18 months old.

Is it the battery or something?

Three things to consider. 1. the battery might need to be changed. 2. Lint has built up inside the FOB causing the battery contact to be poor. Pull out battery and inspect. 3. You have a cellphone too close to the FOB and it is causing interference with the FOB signal.

How do you get to the key?

On the bottom of the fob is little lever you push, out comes the key. To use it, pop the cover off of the ignition switch by pushing the two tabs on either side of the cover.

The fob on my 2010 Touring also started working intermittently after 18 months or so. I popped in a new watch battery and its good as new. Instructions on changing the battery are in the manual. See page 3-5 "Advanced Key Maintenance"

I ordered the replacement battery (CR2025) from amazon http://amzn.com/B0002DSVRO

Mine is acting up too. the auto-lock feature stopped working and I could not unlock the doors using the door/hatch buttons. The FOB will unlock/lock the doors and the car communicates with the FOB when I start and turn off the vehicle. The "KEY" symbol is also appearing. I replaced the FOB battery, but short of disconnecting the vehicle battery I am not sure what to do. I hate disconnecting the vehicle battery because I will have to load the original NAV DVDin and then the Europe map disk I use, and I will also have to reset all my NAV options.

Anyone have any ideas on how to program a backup (third) key fob? One can get new fobs from ebay for around $100. I'm talking about Mazda's advanced keyless system. I have a 2011 CX9.

So what does this have to do with the current thread? Do you have a flakey FOB or an issue with a current working FOB? Haven't you posted your question in a least two other threads? Being more annoying doesn't make anyone answer your questions any faster. Go hijack another thread.

Back to the original problem. Who else has had this prob with a 2007 GT?

Dude, the OM tells you to expect about 12 months of battery life from your smartcard. If yours has lasted 18 months, deffinately take a trip to rite aide (or cvs, walgreens, etc etc) I bet thats the problem.

however, I do have a smartcard with fresh battery that is unreliable. But the reason for this is that I bought it brand new on ebay, took it to the dealer for programming (it was a second card as I only had one) and the service manager dropped it on the concrete from about a 4 foot height and just shrugged his shoulders. I have since bought a third and programmed it myself using the first and the second (unreliable key). Yet another reason dealers are worthless.
