K&N TYPHOON PROBLEM

I never felt, or heard any vibrations or sounds, it doesn't rest on the MC, but I think on hard throttle the engine moves enough between gears to make the two contact?? I even reved the piss out of it from under the hood, and couldn't hardly get the 2 to come together. It's gotta be between gears. Anyhow, K&N will be replacing the tube.

motor mounts would probably help this then... front and back i would think.

it wasnt touching. the elbow pipe is all the way against the throttle body. so i guess i have a vibrating sound coming from somewhere. its only when i start the car and first put it in reverse. the whole car vibrates and i start hearing a metal on metal vibrating sound. i also have the obx header. anyone know what it could be? the intake is not touching any metal parts (the hole to the wheel well or the master cylinder). it only does it when the car is cold and i first shift into reverse. the weird thing is, is that i stick my head out of the window and it sounds like its coming from behind the dash. (shrug) any suggestions?

cool, how long did it take for them to respond?

I have this exact same thing going on here too, it's driving me nuts. It sounds like a light metallic rattle when first shifting into reverse (on a cold engine). anyway, I'm thinking it might be that metal plate behind the front fan (where the old air inlet ducting used to be). Otherwise the car drives perfect with no problems. Regardless, i'm determined to figure this out.

i had the same problem on my first intake, a good and cheap fix is to fill the worn down spot with good epoxy and readjust it the best you can. fixed mine!

Protejay5 and Dosle, you guys both have headers correct? Is there any possibility you headers are hitting the oil pan?

i dont hear it on take off, its only when the car is cold, i put it in reverse and press the brake. it vibrates as i slowly roll in reverse. i havent tried it in drive. it doesnt sound like its coming that low (from the oil pan) but its worth a shot to take a look.

also, i didnt start to hear it til after i installed the intake. it sounds like its coming from up high in the engine bay. there is till a chance it could be the MC hitting the elbow pipe. im stumped but i will find the source of the vibration.

i found it! i think.....

i started my car and put it in reverse and it started vibrating. i put it back into park and it stopped so i popped the hood and started looking around. it turns out its the purge control valve vibrating against the strut bar. when installing the typhoon, it had to be relocated right behind the strut bar. i guess since dosle and i both have the obx header, the vibration is just enough to make pcv touch the strut bar.

i will try to post pics tomorrow of the red paint on the side of the pcv and the spot on the strut bar where the paint has rubbed off. also, i will adjust it and see if it still happens and let everyone know if this was the cause of the vibration.

I don't have a header yet I have the same problem....... I think you're right though, the PCV is pretty damn close to the strut bar and that's where the noise sounds like it's originating.

check the back of the strut bar to see if paint is missing because mine is and the paint is on the pcv

If your not positive that's the problem(and you have an A/T), pull the parking brake when you have it in reverse, and get out and check it? Or do you have to be moving?

i have the header yes. the noise always seems to be coming from dash level inside or outside right below the hood. jose it may take some time to get the same noise i have now, when i first installed it after about 2 months it started making that noise.

matt, i think its the same noise. only mine started about 5 days after the install. my vibration sounds like its comin from right behind the top of the dash. i didnt drive today, so i'll do the park brake tomorrow and see if its it. i will also post pics of the paint that was scraped off.

vibration fixed

the pcv hitting the strut bar was the source of the vibration. i moved the pcv and the vibration disappeared.

the first 2 photos show the paint from the strut bar on the side of the pcv. the 3rd photo hows why it vibrates. i put the car in r3everse and put the park brake on and discovered that they actually touch when the car is in reverse. the fourth pic shows that i moved the pcv to the bolt that is further away from the strut bar. the pic shows the car in reverse and they arent even close to touching.

i hope this helps to solve everyones vibration problems (2thumbs)

just so you know thats not the pcv valve.

when you convert from sri to cai with this intake is it necessary to diconnect the battery and step on the brake to avoid getting a CEL?

nope. the only way is if you disconnect the wires to the sensors ie the maf and temp sensor. CAI to SRI makes no dif. or SRI to CAI. that whole stepping on the brake thing isnt nescesarry when disconnecting the battery.

No, I did this a month ago and everything has been fine - idle is the exact same.

On another note, I'd like to give a big thumbs up to K&N who offered to replace my throttle body tube (no questions asked). I had a similar gash on mine (just like MADHATTER). K&N is one of the best in the buisness at standing by their products.

awsome, have any tips for installation so future owners only have to do this once?
