A few months ago I got on K&N's website and they did not list any drop-in filter for the Mazda 5, only a CAI. I politely submitted a product request and badda bing last week or so I got an email stating that they're now available. I had asked a couple times on the forum before if anyone had gas mileage numbers before/after putting in a K&N drop-in filter... now I know why I got no responses... So somebody bets get on it and post some data, I'm gonna wait till 10,000 miles or so to get one.

I'm been waiting for these and this weekend the auto parts store near me is having a 25% discount on all filters. Will have to give it a try.

yes I saw that some time ago, but K&N wasn't reflecting that on their website and I had no intention of getting one and risking fitment issues.... I prefer the guarantee from them of its intended use.

If the filter doen't fit, you must aquit!!!

But the 3 filter fits perfectly. I noticied a little better seat of the pants acceleration, but no real improvement in mileage.

K&N CAI Compare

I have put K&N filters (CAI) on two 4Runners and three Saabs. All of them showed improvement in gas mileage, HP and emissions (I compared CO emission certs). My Mazda5 is the first instance of where I have put one on right after purchase. So, I have no comparison data on the Mazda. The laws of physics and engineeing do apply to vehicles across the board. Take a look at what components air has to pass through in a stock model, and compare that to a CAI. Stock intakes have back-pressure baffles, etc, in order to quiet your car. Studies show that most people prefer a quiet car, to an efficient one. I'm a BIG kid, so I don't mind the noise under acceleration. There is no noticeable difference in sound whilst cruising.

Well we'll be at 10,000 by August I suspect, so I'll post some solid numbers after driving on the K&N drop-in for a month. When the warranty is done maybe I'll get the CAI and full exhaust.... or does anyone know for sure whether the CAI voids the warranty... I know in general warranties can be voided.
