2002 Mazda Protege 5
Hello everyone, i'm Justin and I'm from Northern California. This is my first account on the Mazdas247 forums, my father was actually a member a long time back when he first bought this Protege 5. It was his commuter car to work every day. He handed it down to me around 193k miles due to his health issues and I fell in love with it.

It is now at 203k miles and still running strong. I replaced and tuned up the car, changed the sparkplugs, the oil, clean air filter, seafoamed it twice, bought new tires etc.

This is such a fun car to work on and drive, i'm continuing to add onto the car and plan on replacing the engine when it dies.

Current mods:
Interior LEDS(blue)
Short shifter
changed the shift boot
VMS weighted knob
mazdaspeed pedals
kspeed(ebay) 4-1 header
bullet exhaust
Injen cold air intake
Tokico blue shocks
Eibach lowering springs
jdm foglights
5k HIDS lows/highs

Future:
engine rebuild/replace
turbo
evo 5 carbon fiber hood
megan racing coilovers
and more

here are some pictures of "feary" :)

any suggestions are welcomed :)

Welcome to you and welcome back to your P5! ha On your headers, what do you have for the EGR setup? I can't tell if you did what I did and just capped off the hole and let the pipe sit behind it or if there's actually piping from the hole to the pipe? And I can definitely agree with you about how fun it is to work on these cars. I'm merely repairing the car and I'm learning a lot and having a lot of fun doing it!

If you can find some, get the JDM taillights. That would be another thing that will make a huge difference in how your car looks. Just my 2 cents.

I think, if your engine is healthy now and you stay on top of your oil changes you don't need to worry about engine replacement for a looong time. I'm a firm believer in changing my oil every 3,000 miles (5,000 kms). I just use cheap Wal-Mart oil for $10 a gallon and a regular filter.

A compression test will let you know the overall health of your engine so you know where you stand.

get the black bezel headlights..they would go great with your window tint and just the fact that your car is black. I think a red valve cover would look great on your car too.

What size wheels and tires do you have? i have the same suspension setup, but im still on stock wheels.

Welcome to the club! Car looks great. I really enjoy the rim choice you went with. Those are some really great shots too, wish I had the camera/talent for shots like that.

Thanks :). Well of course the egr bung was angled and it goes close but not enough to thread... I capped the headers egr valve with a cap i got from ACE. I think its 1/2. Makes it sound much better plugged up! Ill get around to attaching but as of now i have no cel probs

Its pretty healthy. I replaced the sparkplugs with NGK platinums, changed the oil with a Castrol syn blend, cold air intake cleaning, and the header plus the seafoam. It should last a while

I was gonna say, it's been almost a month with my EGR bung capped off and I still haven't gotten a CEL, so I think I might be in the clear. haha

yeah im installing the o2 fouler bypass to be safe on that code and then i'll probably see if a egr code appears

So the other day I got bored and plasti-dipped my interior;

this part was so annoying cause i couldnt get the damn faceplate off lol but it came out good

I went under the car today to check out my second o2 for the cel problem for my header and I noticed this.

what exactly is this? looks like oil, and it is slick. There isnt any drips under the car etc. something to be worried about? please let me know

holy s***. I can't believe you painted your pieces inside of the car. Looks good though lol
