UPDATED 4-11-07 WITH PICS!! Just Put Enkei RPF1s on the MS3--Amazing!

I know many of you are aware of the virtues of lightweight wheels on a car, but I just have to share this.

I just put a set of 18x7.5 Enkei RPF1 wheels on my car. The difference between the stock wheel and tire combo and the Enkei/stock tire combo is almost 9 pounds. Yes, I said 9 pounds

The car feels much better in every conceivable way. Better acceleration, braking corning, and especially ride quality.

About the only two complaints I can level on changing the wheels are that center caps were not included (another $140 for caps!) and that the torque steer is more pronounced.

If you are considering changing wheels, make sure you get lighter ones. You will not be disappointed. (cabpatch)

I know, I know. Just bought a replacement camera too. I will try to snap some tomorrow.

I was looking at getting a set of those.

I'm wondering how lightweight 17 inch wheels and 225/50/17's would do.

Or better yet 235/45/17, although I realize that might be pushing it as far as rubbing.

9 lbs? Did you use stock tires? I got some of the lightest 18s I could find @ 18lbs. 3 additional pounds put your wheels @ 15lbs each with stock tires. I couldn't find any that light. I looked!

Personally, I would go with 235/40/17's, which I am adding to my MSP's, as I have my RPF's, 17 X 8

i wanted those wheels so bad but didn't want to wait the 4 months every one was quoting me cause they had to come from japan... you lucky bastard i went with a split 6 spoke kosie wheel that comes in at 16lbs at 18" and with my 21lb tire i lost 6lbs at each corner...

Sweet! I did the same on my 2005 Mazda3s 4-door, although they replaced my 17x7" 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels for Summer wheels, which were even lighter (by 1 pound). I love both wheels, but now the 5Zigens will be my new Winter wheels (once I use up my current Winter tires on my OEM wheels).

Good choice!

Sorry, guys. The MS3 has been in the shop for a blown rear shock (see my other thread about that).

I think there may have been some misunderstanding about the wheels. If you re-read my original post, I said that the Enkeis are 9 pounds LESS than the factory wheels, not 9 pounds TOTAL. Sorry if I confused anyone.

For an 18" non-forged wheel, this is about as light as it gets. I weighed these at 17.4 lbs each vs. 24.7 for the factory ones. OK, not quite 9 lbs, but I was going with the published numbers on the net. The actual difference is 7.4 lbs each corner.

As many may know, the 15" through 18" RPF1s do not come with a center cap and only the 16"-18" can be ordered. For what these damn things cost, you should get the caps. I have to pay another 100 bucks for four metal caps. What a joke. If these werent so light and well made, I would have gone with something else. Even forged 18s had a hard time getting this light.

Pics to come when the car gets out of the shop.
