Just Ordered My MS3 GT To Be Delivered in Germany

Been reading the forums for a few days, while doing some research on buying a new car and found this site.

I'm in the Air Force and I'm getting stationed in Germany for a few years, and wanted to get a new ride when i get over there. After reading some of the threads on the site, it sealed the deal on MS3. Im kind of limited on choices, because the military car sales only has deals with certain manufactures for warranty work on US cars overseas.

Sounds like a lot of happy Mazda customers and i cant wait to take my MS3 down the Autobahn

Ok normally I would give you a big welcome onboard but Im frigin jealous damn it! :D - if you get a chance read up on the nurenburg ring and make an effort to take your MS3 out to the track...you can then share the experience with us and trully make us green with envy....

Yeh I was stationed in the UK for a few years, and guys would take their crotch rockets over there. I defiantly would love to experience that, and would share it w/you guys.

Oh and thanks for the big welcome :)

Welcome! I'm in Bavaria. I am the only American with one in this part of Germany. I haven't seen any MPS on the Autobahn. I've seen a MS6 MPS, but at the dealership. German dealers won't service ECU reflashes, at least in Bavaria. You'll either go to Spang or Ramstein, if your a AC mechanic. Both are nice, Ramstein is totally Americanized. Spang seems more touristy. Meaning less traffic. (Actually, there is one other MS3 in Vilseck, but owner is downrange, so vehicle is chockblocked in motorpool for next 12 months. According to dealer, there are at least 5 US spec MS3s in Germany owned by military, but they don't post on these forums.)

Words of advice:
Tint car in states. Euro too much.
Buy winter wheels/tires in states. Mandatory in Germany.
Buy oil filters there too, canister filters are special order. Although AAFES sells Royal Purple for $7.45 a Qt.
If you want a Radar detector, get a "stealth" model, SPs and MPs fire KA band all the time, some even have POP. Autobahn cameras use K, KA, and laser! You'll get fined if you're caught with one.
Buy your GPS here, they are cheaper and come with European maps.

Before I leave I plan on filming more 120mph footage on Autobahn. Its sooooo cool that its legal. Going 140mph+ is not the smartest though, just too freakin fast. I've hit 152mph, but usually stay around 110-120mph on safe stretches to open her up. Typically at 100mph when cruising, like rest of the folks, but you can literally see fuel gauge drop every 5 miles- Mazda should of geared 5th and 6th better.

Buy extra brake pads and rotors if you think you'll go faster than 120mph on a regular basis. So many truckers on the road, you'll cook them every 5kms. Truckers (from Romania, Turkey, Poland) love to cut in the fast lane right as you come up, flash your highbeams, sometimes they concede. Oh, I love most German drivers, you usually won't find Grandma going 55mph in the fast lane, most traffic will be in the slow lane so passing is typically safe. Californians can't drive. I get so pissed when Grandma gets in the fast lane and its the slowest car on the road. I wish people actually followed the law. I can't stand passing on the right, it seems so barbaric.

Well unfortunately I wont have the car in the states, getting shipped straight to Germany.

My wife is AF also stationed at Geilekerchen (small NATO base in Germany) she has the GPS, we have a website that updates the GPS with speed camera's and beeps at a set proximity. Not 100%, but last time I was there it was pretty dam close. Wife has a 2000 540i, and I didn't want to stop driving that thing.

When I was in the UK I made lots of trips to Germany, it is a great place to drive and i know what you mean about the Grandma's pulling out in front of you.

Thanks for the info, and once I get my MS3 we will have to meet up.

Roger that. You're gonna love your MS3. At work all you'll be thinking about is driving on the Autobahn. Its so exhilarating with a performance oriented vehicle. My wife's old 535i was nice and had power, but just doesn't beat the MS3's fun factor.
