I just finished installing an pioneer avic f90bt and used the kanatechs piano black kit.

I must say the kit is awesome but the only thing I did not like about it was the little side tabs they didnt make piano black, so I went ahead and bought some black vinly and tried my best to make the tabs look better all in all I think it came out alright. Let me know what you guys think.

I also took some pics of my sub setup. 1 12" Jl W7 with the Jl W7 HO box, 1 JL slash series v2 1000/1 amp.

Looks very nice, except for the vinyl part. Even that doesn't look too bad. I just wonder why they would go piano black everywhere but there. Odd.

Once you have a chance to play with this unit, please tell us all about it!

That's a big f'n sub! Jesus! I'm getting the itch to upgrade my sub. I was thinking of going from an 8" Bazooka to a 12" JL PowerWedge.

Looks nice!!! I just had the Pioneer AVIC D3 installed in mine and two 12" Pioneer Premeir Competition Series subs installed in a ported box. The Speed 3's rock to have sound systems in... I mean, literally you could drop ass, and the bass would rumble the ride!!! I love it!!!

Oh forgot to add its also 2 3000 Watt speakers with a Hifonics Brutus 2000Watt amp. I decided not bridge for more power... was told my windows could bust LOL!!!

actually looks pretty good. I think these look better with the piano black MS3s since they match the unit so well.

The more I see of the piano black interior the more glad I am I got my '08 when I did.

I see the trip computer is still working. Interested to hear how.

Thanks for the compliments. I think I am gonna have the side tabs painted piano black instead of the vinyl so it doesn't look as cheap.

And to Mike240sx- as far as how i got the trip computer to work all i did was connect the stock deck before i installed the pioneer and made it show the trip computer, then i shut the car off completely and plugged in the pioneer and it was still on there. Idk if this is the correct way to do it but it worked for me.

To Billthecat --So far I love the pioneer head unit, After owning it for a mere day I was already on the Avic forums finding ways to hack it and now to me it should of came this way standard instead of people having to hack there brand new deck.

The Pros are so far

-- You really cant find a cheaper double din with all the built in accessories, I paid $500 shipped for a brand new Pioneer avic f90bt which retails for $1200

--The blue tooth is great (iphone 3g),

--The ipod interface is awesome even though it is sometimes tough to get voice recognition to understand what album you want to here.

-- Charges my phone while playing music from it.

--The screen resolution is I believe 840x400 and makes videos from DVD/ipod look great.

This may sound dumb but the ability to adjust the color of the buttons to the car is a nice feature.

--4 volt preouts made it sound a lot clearer than with my stock speed deck

--The ability to hack it and customize anything you could possibly want on it(to a certain extent)

--Matches Piano black interior perfect

--Built in flash drive for map so no more DVDs

--3d buildings even though i have not seen any yet lol.

The cons are so far

--Msn direct sucks to be honest at least were i live.

-- The load up time is honestly not that long but wish it was like 10 seconds instead of 25 seconds load up time

That's about it for now. I drive a lot for work so I am always in my car

i'd be affraid of that AP getting jacked sitting up there! That aint to $150 ipod :(

that looks nice, my friend has that unit in his Gti. Is that a W7 in the back?

Edit: nvm I read that it is, nice setup man!

pretty sure you're gonna lose the trip functionality when you disconnect your battery. Even still though... looks awesome

Yeah, that's the right way to do it, but as stated below, if the battery is disconnected, you will lose it, then have to put the stock HU back in temporarily to re-set it as you already did.

That's incredible what that HU can do. I was unaware of all those functions. I may have considered that otherwise. My main issue was not wanting the nav, as I have a Garmin. Sounds sweet though! Did you have to hack it to get that MazdaSpeed logo in there, or is that just a simple download?

do your steering wheel controls still work with this unit?

I doubt it. Most HU's you need an external controller wired between the steering controls and the HU, and most are brand specific, usually with limited functionality even after doing this. Never seemed worth it to me.

Opt_ms3 I do have the Bose system. All I did was use the wiring harness that kanatechs supplied, but you could also buy the wiring harness from crutchfield for around $20.
And believe it or not the Bose speakers are handling the power from the deck and is alot louder and to me cleaner with little distortion. But I do plan on buying an amp for my highs and get rid of them in a couple of months.

Ecinemann no hacking is needed all you hav e to do is put a 840x400 res picture on a sd card and put it on.

Gofast no the controls don't work but u can purchase it for around $65

Any issues with the Iphone 3g. I have this phone and was thinking about getting the exact same HU.

How well does the HU control the songs on the Iphone? Is it slow or buggy?

Also I stream audio stuff to my Iphone like Pandora and currently use the AUx jack. Does that kind of audio come thru the bottom jack into the HU? Or do you have to use the aux jack.

Trader I have no problems with the iphone 3g and it isnt laggy at all I use the ipod connector that came with the head unit and I can control it perfectly from it. I also have pandora and it plays great on it.
