Just got a free 2.0 engine for free...

I work at a mazda dealership and one of my buddies said i could have a 2.0 engine that has been sitting there just collecting dust. Some questions i have are what else could i do besides port&polish, new cams. Im not really looking into the FI route, i kind of wanna stay NA. Any suggestions welcomed...

The NA Forum would be the best place for you. The people there have made a lot of progress with this engine and have no problem sharing their knowledge.

stronger rods, high compression pistons, ported head, aggressive cams, standalone engine management system with a larger throttle body, ported intake manifold, underdrive pulley and straight flowing exhaust.

toss in a set of machimoto zx tires and you'll be winning races by an inch or a mile in no time

If you get diferent Cams, Get the Shim Clearance done as it will change. It will kill the motor much sooner if the clearance is out of tolerance...

anyway...go turbo man, just order forged pistons and rods, take it to the machine shop and build it.
Ive seen Stock rods pushing a bit over 260whp but they will eventually fail in a blink of an eye if something goes wrong.

Yea, i tihnk im goin to stay NA because its my daily driver, but this is going to be a project over time unless i win the lottery...haha

well you could build one NA engine and one turbo engine bwahahaha so that way you have use for both engines...or go turbo and have a back up engine

sorry guys, but im not trying to get rid of it. I think im going to make this a summer project. So i'll keep you guys updated on how things are comming along
