Hi, I just finished putting a Duratek 2.5 auto from a 2011 escape into a 2008 Mazda 2.3 standard. The job took me two days and it would have been quicker but of course there were problems. For the most part it was pretty straight forward. I had to use my oil pan because the donor didn't have AC and use the donor pick up. My pick up bolted to the donor block wrong and therefore wouldn't allow me to put my 2.3 oil pan onto the new block. in order to use the new 2.5 pick up I had to cut the baffle inside my 2.3 oil pan for the 2.5 Pick up. The 2.5 pan baffles are 100 percent different than the 2.3's so that's why I cut mine and I kept my existing pan and dip stick. I kept my 2.3 wiring harness and only changed the oil sensor, crank sensor and intake manifold , as well as the crankshaft pulley. The 2.3 valve cover wouldn't bolt down due to the water temp sensor in the head sticking up so I just used the 2.5 because it was on the floor ready to go. I had to change the water pump pulley from the 2.5 to the 2.3 pulley ( 2.5 water pump pulley is bigger) so I could continue to use the Mazda 2.3 belt size. The tensioner pulley also had to be swapped out because the 2.5 bolts up opposite side of engine. Once I tried to put the serpentine belt on I saw that the new block bolted up to the front motor mount with three bolts instead of two and this makes it tight for the serpentine belt hitting the engine. I had to use a mini grinder and cut a little bit to allow for the belt, this is tricky because if you go to far into the mount/head your going to go through the block allowing oil to leak out don't take to much meat only about a eighth of an inch, I read some where that you have to shave the head but the fellow didn't say how much to take off, be careful even though you think its only the mount, its not, it does go into the block almost like its hollow around the mount studs. Intake is totally different you cannot use the 2.5 because wiring is totally wrong for 2.3 harness. I have read that because intake ports on 2.5 are bigger the 2.3 intake doesn't seal, I cut the two dowel pins off my 2.3 and used a little silicone on the upper part of my intake gasket and when I bolted it on I pulled upward and only hand tightened then after an hour I tightened to spec and have no leak issues. For my job I used the 2.5 timing cover but like I said you have to change crank pulley, if you don't know how to time your engine or don't have the tools google it before you start or engine damage is immanent
