I just dropped my car off at mazda this morning. I want to try to get the clunk fixed in the back and get the ecu flashed. I have an intake and tt on. I hope they dont give me any problems. When I was dropping my keys off they told me that they could not flash the car and I would have to take it to a mazdaspeed dealership. There is not one for about 100 miles from where I live. Doesnt anyone know if they were full of s*** or they just can't. Thanks.

dealer has to have ms cerification to do ms related stuff....besides general maintence ur gonna have to go to a ms dealer

Well all dealerships have a computer that they hook all cars up to. So they really should be able to flash the car, regardless of whether or not they are an ms dealer. It's just a download from mazda and then they flash your car with it.

nah, im pretty sure that they have to be an MS dealer if they sold you the car in the first place. But yeah, mazda wont let any dealer who is not MS certified or whatever work on MS products.

Call Mazda NA. Your dealership can flash your car. Make the service manager call them they will tell him how to do it.

I just got a call from mazda. They said the bushings on the rear sway bar are shot. They told me that the rear sway bar was aftermarket b/c it didnt say mazda speed on it. He said the bushing and stuff was all factory but he thought the sway bar was aftermarket. What can I do? I told me the car is completely stock except for the intake. Thanks for the help.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the 03.5 models have MazdaSpeed labels. If you have an 03 model (Black or Orange), then the stock extras have the original labels (sparco, racing beat, etc.).

I could be wrong about the sway bar though. If the 03.5s have the Racing Beat decal then you can just go to mazdausa.com and print out a spec sheet on your car that lists the racing beat suspension upgrade.

Actually, you could also show your dealer a Protege accesories catalog (from Mazda). You can buy the suspension parts for use on any Protege.

He thought it was aftermarket? Is he going to find out? Sounds like you have a dealer that doesn't know his product and doesn't care to learn.

My new favorite example: I had a parts manager tell me I needed to provide a VIN to buy the lower mesh for my Protege 5. I was told the grilles are different on 5's based on the suspension package.

I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to.

i went in for a reflash with the intake, they said NO WAY! almost put a note on my record to void my warranty, it was a mes, i hate mazda dealerships with a passion, i have 2 MS certified dealerships within 35-40 miles of me, hopefully the other one will do my reflash

Does everyone have this much trouble with dealerships? I must be really lucky then cuz I have no trouble what so ever when I bring my car in.

I told him I was sure it was stock and he said he would check it out. I am going to pick it up now and I am going to b**** if he can't fix it. He also said there was no way he can flash my car so I am going to try to call Mazda NA later and see what they can do. Hopefully they will be helpful. Thanks.

Wow, your dealerships suck ass! I got my car flashed here at the NON-speed certified dealer no problem. I just called them with the computer program number, they called the techline and downloaded it, then I brought it down and got flashed in about 45 minutes. Now, he said he didn't mind doing it because it works the same for any car, but did say if I needed any engine or suspension work I would need to take it to the ms dealer 120 miles away. Oh, and I can confirm the 03.5 sway bar is red and says Racing Beat.

My dealership had a stock Protege with an aftermarket intake on the sales floor when I went to look at my car. Mine was on the salesfloor around the corner. :)

they ordering the new bushings and said it would be covered but they gave me a hard time about it and he had to call the mazda na. He said he can't flash my car though what should i tell him

The only mechanics trained on the MSP are at MazdaSpeed dealers. He may not be allowed to do it even if he knows how. I have to drive an hour, but I picked a MazdaSpeed certified dealer before I decided to get the car. I don't mind the drive to be sure that I know I have a competent mechanic that won't BS me.
