jspec intake manifold

Ive looked all over the forum here, and am not clear about the jspec intake manifold. Ive heard 4 or 5 people mention they were getting one, but no results.
Is it a direct bolt-on, no mod?
Did you notice a difference in power?

Or is this just a useless upgrade??

I have it sitting in my garage. The thing you have to consider is the fact that the stock ECU cannot control the solenoid that controls the Variable Intake Control System. Without that, it may not be worth it. I would only get the thing put on when I can control this. Other than this, the little black box on top is for better throttle response.

I thought we had a vics (since people are complaining about cold start noise, they are removing the control for the vics)??? From what I understand its what makes us ULEV compliant.
What are the gains supposed to be with this intake header?

Our ECU's can control VICS as it is a standard thing on our Proteges anyways. Look on teh left hand side (passengers) of the stock intake manifold and you will see the actuator and the control solenoid is on top of the manifold right beside the solenoid the fuel pressure vacuum lines run through.

That is what I thought. Do you know what the gains of the jspec intake manifold are supposed to be? Not sure why linuxracer does not install his intake....

The reason I have not installed my J-spec Intake Manifold is the fact that no one has found a way to control the j-spec accuator on the manifold with the stock ECU (supposedly). If there was a known solution, I would have done this. Until I am sure that I can control the J-spec Accuator, I will wait.

i hate to repeat tester's question, but if both of our intake manifolds have the VICS whats the difference between the manifolds then. are the runners a different size. and what exactly is the VICS for? low emissions cold starts cause if it helps performance ill take that off since MO doesnt have sniffer tests.

According to the guys I spoke to as CorkSport a while back, there is now difference. I was told that the MP3 already has the dual stage intake manifold. I also noticed the actuator on the intake manifold. I messed around with it and zip tied it to see if there was a difference.

The intake manifold is the piece near the firewall that you hook the intake pipe upto. The intake cam is not visible unless you remove the valve cover and a few other parts. Don't worry man, that's not a stupid question. If you don't ask then you might not ever find out.

see thats what i thought also. I thought that was one of th efirst things that came out on this site. so did you see a difference. and what do you mean by "zip tied it".

hey apexi

i was thinking of doing the same thing and seeing if zip tieing it open would help at alll... did you notice a difference in top end.. i know we would lose some low end because its not open in the low end.... do you know what rpm it opens up at.. sometimes i can feel a little burst of power around 3500 rpm... is that the short runner opening up????
or am i starting to go insane... lol

Funny thing is that I felt no difference at all. I figures out how to zip tie it by having a friend watch it as I turned the key to the on position in the ingition. If you have you're stereo on mute when you turn the key, you'll hear a very audible "click". After a couple of minutes of screwing around, I decided to have a buddy watch the engine bay as I turned the key to see what that "click" was. That's when I found out it was that little FPR looking thing on the intake manifold. I'm not quite sure if there was supposed to be a big gain at all, but I registered no gain on the "Butt Dyno".

I felt like it took a second longer to wind up. But nothing significant. Probably just placebo honestly.:(
