[edit] Just wanted to edit my own post here, we've since then reached someone else at John Finger (and several other dealers in the area) and they WILL do it. PM me if you need contact info. Original post follows.
Well, I just spoke with the service dept. at John Finger in Greenville (Sat 9/11 3:00pm), and I'm told they don't "have authorization" to install that fix yet. I told him I can give him the exact file to download and that MSP owners across the country are already having it done, and he said the fix may be "out there" but until they have authorization from the manufacturer they aren't going to do it.
He said he just spoken to his regional manager about this and if other dealerships are doing it now they may be going ahead knowing that Mazda may not reimburse them for the work; at John Finger they don't like to do that. I should've gotten his name, darn it. I'll call back and get it.
At any rate, does this sound right? Has anyone else gotten the fix in Western SC or the tri-state area? I assured him I could drive a few hours and have it done tomorrow morning at another dealership, but that I preferred to have it done in Greenville where I bought the car. You know, establish a friendly relationship with the service department, etc.
