JL W7s hit LATE

There in lies the problem. The W7 is a Purist sub, it plays sub bass only. Techno is not sub bass. SO you basicly want something that is less of a SQ sub or atleast a more traditional woofer.

MOst any sub but the W7 would be OK. I wouldn't go over the W3 if techno is the most typical music.

For upper bass like techno even 3 10W0s with a JL 250/1 get more then enough people by.

A system that works well for all music is not a diffucult thing. It gets diffucult as you demand more SQ.

ok, so do you recomend that i downgrade to W6v2s...2 12s perhaps?? i still want the deepest bass i can get but perhaps i will settle for sligthly less bass but for better all around performance of all type of music. right now, the W7s are just kick ass for all things rap, hip hop. but i wont be 100% happy untill i can put in some techno and still enjoy my system as i do when i blast some pac, biggie, jay z, dmx, etc etc. i might be asking for too much, but then again, i think anything is possible.

Best bet if you want to keep the W7s is to componets in kick panels and then use 8" dynaudio midbass drivers in the doors.

1st mp3, im not quite sure what you mean. you are saying components in the front and 8" midbass driver in the rear? can i still use the 300/4 to power them? Right now, i have JUST the BAs RC820 components in the front. Just replaced the NX67 coaxil speaker with BAs RM6 speakers. Actually, the RM6 speakers are not in the rear doors yet. Will install tomorrwo or the following day. BA just sent them to me.

NO I mena get a set of 5.25" components and put them in custom built kick panels and then put 8" midbass drivers in the front doors. Thats about the only way to get really good midbass with the W7 as the subs. If you can maybe sell the W7's and get 3 10W3's.
Just an idea.

ohh, i see what you mean. i prob would not seel the W7s. i would exchange them at the store. i mean, the system is not delivering what the sales guy said it would. unless he can tweak it for me. does that mean i would not have a rear door speakers at all, or just power them with the HU? and will the 300/4 power te comps and the midbass driver? thnx

To solve your problem swap the 2 10's for 1 12w7 in the JL H.O. box. Fire the sub to the rear between 6 to 10 inches from the hatch. Most house music has a delay on the drum patterns. Also take the time to tune your system. Your system is just like an instrument.

before you go and change subs, try the exact songs you are having problems with on another system. and if you are going for "tight" bass, there really isn't such thing, IMO. all bass is muddy, reguardless of the sub. it's the midbass region that's seems to be most people's problem, which is why i'm putting an 8 up front to help with it;)

i tried the same songs in my friends set up with 2 12 audibahns that are pointing toward the roof of the car. The bass is never late. But my bass hits with deeper notes, but you can def hear the difference in how late it is.

As somebody I think has already mentioned.. try playing with the posistion of your sub. Something many people don't realize, is that sub waves are VERY long.. so long in fact that you often don't hear your own base straight from the sub.. you hear what eventually bounces back.

I've spent a great deal studying sound and waves over the years.. the direction of a sub can make a difference.

Also, since your subs are hitting lower notes, the waves are longer..which could amplify the problem.. especially in a fast song.

Of course, it could be a lot of other things that I know jack about.. but this is just my suggestion that came to mind when you mentioned the posistion of your friends system and the fact that your subs are hitting lower.

There is a such thing as tight bass. Tight bass can best be explained when the bass tone is clean and crisp not all dirty. Thus this is the difference in a spl and a sq system. The w7 is a sq sub. This is the only sub that I have heard that keeps good sq in a ported box. I have heard alot of systems since I have been doing spl. I have also heard alot of sq systems. I like sq but I rather have a system that will make your heart stop. Stick with the w7's.

i have to disagree and say in the actual bass region, sub 80 hz, there isn't really tight bass. not the way mid bass is tight and clean sounding. yes, some subs in the right enclosure will have better transient response and lower group delay, which is why sealed is the prefered box for SQ. but i'm a fan of ported, or alternative designs like TL and 6th order bp. i'm also looking into both horn design and 8th order bp. and given a w7 compared to a brahma, at the same power, under about 1,200 watts, the w7 will outperform a brahma, except in the low bass region. but you crank the power above 1,200 watts, and the brahma will be louder and drop lower if both subs are in ideal boxes for each one respectively. both are amazing subs. and yes, there is a reason every great sub is compared to the w7's, jl put out a superior sub that everyone has to try to beat. and in some ways the brahma beats the w7, as does IDMAX and a few others. so don't take it as i'm bashing JL or anything like that, the only thing i hate about them are their prices:p

AH!

i think JL makes a great product, but they need to stop being such stingy ***** and lower the prices:D and just for s**** and giggles, i put my brahma 10 in an optimum sealed box and compared it to my friend's 10w7, both running in my friend's car, with his eq setup for the w7, and his 1,200 watt amp adjusted for the w7. and neither one of us could hear a difference above about 35 hz, but below that, the brahma destroyed the w7:D even at low volume, where i used my radio shack dB meter, the brahma was anywhere from .4 to almost 2 dB's louder in the low freqs;) now, if it was a brahma 12 vs a 13w7, i'd venture to say with the larger cone area and higher excurion the w7 would be able to keep up in the low freq's a lot better:D i want to see a comparison of a XXX vs w7:p that would be interesting;)

the reason i went with JLs is because almost everyone had great things to say about their build and sound quality. i never really gave much thought to many of these underground sub manufacturers. not underground, but less known to the general car audio public. does brahma manufecturer have a website where i could learn more about them? also, i am concerrned less with SPL and DEF much more with SQ. i do not compete at all, i simply want the best SQ i can afford. thnx for all the input guys.

If you are willing to wait a couple weeks I can tell you first hand how good Elemental Designs' subs are. They are well know for their SQ and great prices. (and I mean great! 125$ for a 10" sub which has been compared and said better than the 10w3v2..they're even starting a budget line for lower power apps)

Another buiding block for SQ is the amp that you use...I have a JL 250/1 and it's magnificent for a sub amp. All of the JLs have great SQ and power delivery.

If you aren't competeing than even JL w3s will probably be great SQ for you. You could save a ton of money that way. It's probably best to take a listen...Honestly, though...true SQ, to me, is a balance of bass and mids and treble.

Good components are key, probably a midbass as well. You can't have a crap set of components or coaxes off the HU and a perfect SQ sub and amp, and still sound great to everyone's ear. The key to personal SQ, though, is whatever sounds good to you...that's why 1st always recommends that we listen to speakers and doesn't just suggest a brand in particular. Good luck in your venture, and keep us updated! :D
