JL audio--- 500/1 and which sub?

any thoughts about JL's MONO 500/1 amp? I know its not very efficient (57% about all the time) but it has RIPS and other people say its only downfall is effeciency.

What JL sub to match? I was thinking 12W7 or 12W6v2. only would get one. is it alot more worth it to get the W7 (750RMS or the v2 400RMS)

any help would be appreciated.

I've seen that amp power 3, 10" W3's just nicely, if you plan on getting a W7, thats a $hit load of $$$ and i don't know if that amp will do the job.

the JL 500/1 is capable of over 700 watts rms, check www.carsound.com

it can handle a 12W7. just make sure the box is made of 1" MDF.

Eve with the Rips the amp is only slightly less effiecent then other class D designs but it uses a class AB sub design so its slew rate and damping factor are radicly superior to many other amps.

It will be tuff to find internet deals on JLs. They regulate there stock very well and they authorize NO internet sales.

how much do W7's weigh anyway? like 60 lbs? and their like a grand almost aren't they for the 12' W7?

is there a place online that u know of that i can buy a vented/ported box with the correct dimensions that sound good? I know they sound best in these (or so i think).

I have found that JLs prefer a sealed encolsure but can be ported as well. Most prefab boxes aren't worth crap. So, nope, no clue where to buy a well built vented box online. I highly suggest letting a JL retailer build it and get your sub from them so if you play bass to low and the driver becomes unloaded and smoked you can get a new driver.

10W7s are $550 apiece 25 Ibs
12W7s are $750 apiece 40 Ibs
13.5W7s are $950 apiece 50 Ibs
I don't know the cost or weight of the 8W7s yet.

NO! Your friend is wrong, infact he is so wrong you should never listen to him again. Infact he is no longer your friend.

The 500/1 like any mono amp has one channel of amplification, to that channel you can wire as many subs as you want that combined present a 1.5 to 4 ohm load and all together don't want more then 700 watts rms. So if you really wanted to you could run 6 JL audio 10W0 off of it.
