JDM MS3 bumpers shorter?

Just like the title reads, I'm curious if the JDM bumpers are shorter than the USDM bumpers.

I know this is true for other vehicles due to the US standards with 5mph crashes.

Reason i ask is I hate my rear MS3 bumper. It's definately a fat ass. And would be nice to swap to a stock slimmer piece.

Not quite sure about the JDM pieces, but I know at least that the EDM and Aussie market REAR bumpers are shorter (and lack the red side reflectors).

I'd love to have one. They look remarkably better.

I believe the fronts are the same length, regardless of the market.
 
Yeah we cut the bumper supports out, or rebar, as you're calling them. Honestly they are only for the 5mph crashes. Nothing more.

And i'm not one to sacrifice safety, but 5mph impacts vs. a smaller ass. Worth it in my book.

I just found some pics on google of the axela mps, the rear bumber is definately shorter. Only modifications I bet you would have to do is the rear bumper support and the exhaust.

I'm headed to thailand on business in the next week or so, lets see what I can find.

If we find a part number for the JDM piece, does anybody know of a dealership that could/would order it?

Have fun if you get hurt in a wreck and the insurance company discovers that you modified the bumpers.

With the amount of "trimming" you'd need to do, they'd likely never know. Of course I'm not talking about removing the crash beam altogether. That's a different story.

I did a complete EDM conversion (bumper, grille, fenders) on the front of my first '01 Focus, and had to trim the corners of the NA spec rebar and remove the crash foam in order to get the front bumper to fit. The car was totalled 2 years later in a front-end collision, and the insurance company never batted an eye...

Other than posting on this forum, they would never know. (doh)

And tell me you're not going to change the 240 to silvia spec.

Anyways the only way I see this working is if somebody from Japan chimes in with the correct part number and then there is a dealership over here that is cool enough to order it for us.

Yeah, with the aforementioned Focus it wasn't too hard, since there were a number of vendors in the US and Canada that were able to supply the Euro market parts. I'm not aware of anybody in the Mazda world that's doing something similar...
 
I contacted JapanParts.com about this a few months ago. They now have it listed on their website. Sorry, I don't have the actual link to post but finding it on the site shouldn't be a problem.
 
Its part number on Japanparts.com is 143-119-001

It's listed at $347.20, with the cheapest option for shipping being Greyhound @ $339.71. So a total of $686.91 would get me an unpainted bumper in 23-30 days.

The funny thing is that I live in a town with an international seaport and Greyhound is still cheaper (seaport shipping is $491.98). (lol2)

Shipping to my door would be: $928.82

Shipping to the intnl airport in my city is: $792.29

I don't think I'll be buying one any time soon...
