I bought a '94 Mazda 121 when I was working in Hong Kong for my mother way back in 1998 and shipped it back to the UK.
The car had only done 24,000km and was like new, had the Mazdaspeed spoilers etc and the funtop roof.
Car has now done something like 80,000km now (I've changed the speedo to a regular MPH version) but the one thing that has never impressed is the performance... (smash)
It has been totally reliable but does not seem to want to go beyond 50Mph/80Kmh generally speaking - although it will do around 80Mph/130Kmh on a good straight downhill.... (321fu) .
Now my mother would be quite happy with this if it was not for the fact that it only does something like 30mpg (UK) 26mpg (US) or something like 9L/100km which is pretty bloody awful really!
I had a tested at a local diagnostic centre and they said it was running as well as it did the day it left the factory...
Any ideas what could be causing this?
All the filters are clean - it does not reek black smoke - in fact it runs perfectly but feels like it is 45PS (BHP) and gets about as much economy as an American V6 car.....
If any of you Aussies know of any websites that deal with the 121 please let me know - it is a great little car that just does not perform how it should in my opinion. The car is very rare in the UK but I am led to believe it was very popular over your way?
