JD Power 2007 IQS: Mazda next to last

my family used to be a toyota family but since we got my p5, they're thinking of only getting mazdas lol (japan built only plz) heh every1 told us that toyota is really good but i'd hate to break it to ya, its not..we got a '01 toyota 4runner and its been in the garage countless times >< mostly for transmission crap. we had a couple of "unsolvable" occurances wit the 4runner. heh plus servco toyota over here sucks in service. they take their fricken sweet time and cant even solve the problem or if my dad knows whats wrong, they wont check it out(my dad used to be a mechanic). mazda on the other hand, my parents were really pleased. the p5 hasnt given any problems as of yet plus the mazda dealer here is much nicer than the toyota one.

yea antoine is right. there have been massive recalls on toyotas especially the brand new models. remember the tundra, tacoma, and another car i forget which recall kinda recently? i dont remember mazda having massive recalls such as that.

haha o look i found the site xP http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9741450/ its funny how ya dont really see mazda making that big of a headliner how toyota did..

I don't think Mazda's issues are any worse than other makes...certainly not SECOND TO F'IN LAST!!!

Apparently, that is exactly what they are.

Also, Toyota and honda issues recalls for alot of problems that mazda would NEVER recall. Every damn car with the word mazdaspeed on the road (or in the shop) is a testimate to that.

The question is do Mazdas really have that many problems per model/per car than Toyota, Honda, Nissan or Mitsubishi??? Just because you issue a lot of recalls doesn't mean your product is better than a company who doesn't...Bottomline...Toyota, Honda, Nissan or Mitsubishi have all issed a TON of recalls over recent years and that clearly indicates these makes are not just experiencing the "odd" problem...I can't believe that Mazda has MORE issues than these other recall crazy makes...

Still...I don't buy it...To rate Mazda worse than Mitsubishi, Volkswagen or any American make for that matter is ludicrous!

I'm sure if you hit up other boards/forums for other makes...You'll find the same amount if not more concerned members than we have here on Mazda Forums.

I think P5w3kids brings up several valid concerns about JD's system:

In JD's case the problem isn't how they gather the data. Instead, it's that they combine two different things--design quality and production quality--and that the absolute size of the differences is so small that it's often not meaningful.

Mazda is doing worse than average, but the difference between Mazda and the average is about 1/3 of a problem per car. Are you going to buy your second or third choice to avoid 1/3 of a problem, or even 2/3 of a problem?

Probably not.

The differences between models within a brand are usually larger than those between brands. Most Mazdas have very good IQS scores. But clearly a few are now bad enough to drag the brand's average to the bottom.

My suspicion, based on very small sample sizes, is that the CX-7 is one of those not doing so well. I'll know more in a month or so, when the current quarter's results for my survey start to come in.

In the end...You believe what you want to believe...Do a search and you'll find other Media organizations rate Mazda quite differently...

1. that guy was autoXing at an SCCA event, not drifting at a car show.

2. that has been discussed ad nauseum on a bunch of autoX boards, and was due to his receiving and installing incorrectly-sized aftermarket lug nuts.

3. the FD RX-7 had more than its share of reliability issues, but wheels falling off wasn't one of 'em.

(mswerd) What was the point of that link in this thread anyway...anybody could easily deduce that it was user error...not Mazda.

Lame (notcool)...maybe you meant to post that in the vid forum where it belongs...next time...keep your posts on topic.
