[Here's the monthly sales report I've been doing, it just adds the historical monthly sales from 2007 to 2010]

North America Mazda released their January 2010 US sales data.

In January 2010 1,627 Mazda5s were sold, up 21.4% from January 2009.

For comparison 7,368 Mazda3s were sold in January.

Here's the data I have gathered from 2007 to the present.

I was a December sale. This is combined for US and Canada? The numbers actually seem *higher* than I expected - and the 3's numbers sound lower than I'd have guessed. Glad to see they're selling a good number of these...

Interesting info...I've chipped in for Feb 2010.

You sure see the effects of $4+ U.S. gas prices in 2008...a very nice bump in sales as folks looked for (and found) something with good carrying capacity *and* decent fuel economy.

I kept my receipt for one gas stop in my CX7 during those months...$64 for a fill-up. Not a record, of course...I shuddered at the cost of fueling one of those 40+ gallon Chevy Suburban gas tanks my Texas buds all used to drive. I'm old enough to remember $0.19_9 self-serve regular "back in the day".

My record tank of gas was $67 for my Corolla, that was for about 11.5 US gallons of gas. Of course gas in Canada is considerably more expensive...

Heh yeah, my family drove through Quebec during the peak and our little Elantra (14.5 gallon tank) took something on the order of 80CAD to fill - wish I'd kept the receipt for that one.

Though to be fair it still was never too bad in NA. Way back in 1997, when gas in the St. Louis area was selling for $0.77/gal, I drove in Northern Ireland and was paying almost 1GBP per litre even back then. Funny enough, I've heard that the recent runups in gas prices have been less problematic in Europe because the heavy tax on gas means that a quadrupling in the underlying cost, combined with an unchanging tax cost, resulted in prices only going up ~50-60% when US prices went up 300%. They still pay way more in absolute terms though...

summer of 06 at a remote fueling station on the boarder between BC and Alberta, we paid $1.37/ litre (more than 5$ a gallon) for regular. I almost told the jockey to remove the fuel when he asked for 80 bucks after a fillup.

Who knew that we would be paying over $1.55/litre by the summer of 08.
Back to a buck a litre currently.

0% financing for three years plus $500 cash back is back, should boost sales for the next month or two. I'm seeing '10 Sports with manual transmission advertised at $16,500 in the St. Louis area.
